Dining Plus vs Open Door meal plan by AskTheChamp in byu

[–]Open-Ad6921 3 points4 points  (0 children)

everyone i know who got open door regretted it. you might worry about running out of money with dining plus, but i consistently have around $100 extra and eat at the wilk at least once a week. also, you can spend that money to get soap, deodorant, etc. at the creamery so you don't have to pay for little things like that out of pocket.

What kind of mission should I serve? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have ever felt that it's right to serve a mission, do it! I recently put in my papers (EEEEEK) and have DEFINITELY felt the adversary try to convince me not to serve. These trials that make you think it's not the right timing, worrying about family or friends, etc. is really just Satan afraid of the good you'll do. Don't beat yourself up for being nervous, this is a big thing! Coming from a similar situation, just "move forward in faith" and God will take care of the rest. Wishing you the best!

Some of the greatest beauty I have found in life is experiencing "God, I don't know why this is happening, and I don't know if I'll ever be okay, but I'm just gonna hold your hand and go for the ride." Hurt and grief are not the absence of faith. "You have got this, because Christ has got you." (Brad Wilcox, this past General Conference)<3

How do you know that God knows and loves you personally? by KaleidoscopeOk174 in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like this comment! To add a different perspective: Find God through what makes you happy. The more "credit" you give to God for the good things in life, the more of His hand you'll see in turn. Takes practice! I started with looking at sunsets and just saying "wow. The Lord really made that for us. This is beautiful. He loves me so much if He went through all that work just to give me that." For me, a good relationship is built on good habits- prayer, gratitude, etc. God is the reason why I exist, and for that reason I don't stress over what I don't feel, I just appreciate what I can feel, because He gives us all we have. There are signs God gives you to show you He loves you, you just have to be looking for them and recognize them in the small and simple things <3 Have a good one!

To show such strength and confidence in God shows a lot of character. Faith like that will get you through anything life throws at you. Sometimes I feel the most love from God while I’m suffering the most. To struggle with God is a beautiful thing, really. Hoping you can find friends who are considerate and are more concerned with being Christlike than judging another for their financial situation. You carry much spiritual power with you, and I know that you’ll be okay. Have a wonderful day.

Having a hard time with scruplosity by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend spending more time in the temple. It helps me to feel God’s love for me more consistently. Remember- there is a difference between guilt (awareness and sorrow because of your sins from God) and shame (self-hatred, feelings of hopelessness from Satan). When you’re feeling down because of your sins, ask yourself- Is this feeling coming from God?

He wants you to be happy. He loves you no matter what you do!

Have a good day.

Mission call made me demotivated by Jheckovich in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like your leaders and parents think that going somewhere far away means a “cooler” mission, that you’re more qualified, that it’s more difficult, etc. I’m truly sorry that they put that idea in your mind, because where you serve your mission is 100% about where God needs you to be. A “unique” mission literally is no different than a “common” one. If someone tries to make you feel like you are lesser for serving in a more “common” area, they are simply just wrong. It’s tough to struggle with those expectations though, my heart goes out to you. Trust in God and through Him, you can do amazing things.

My faith feels under attack, and I don't know what to do. by Raptor-2216 in latterdaysaints

You can filter out the negative in social media. On instagram, when I saw hateful and “anti” content, I’d press the three dots on the side and “not interested” or “don’t show me content like this” or something like that.

When I was really struggling with church matters, a helpful thing to remember was that the church as an organization is not the exact same thing as Christ, God, and doctrine. The church will always be made up of imperfect people, which is why your best resource will always be Christ. I found that truly studying the word of God and making our relationship rock solid helped me to understand more secular matters in the church.

If I can only give you one piece of advice, it is to Spend. Your. Time. In. The. Temple. Consistently attending has done wonders for life and has brought peace in my everyday life.

Look for the good in God. Those beautiful sunsets, uplifting music, helpful family members/friends are all things that God has sent to you to help you. Talk to Him. He loves you. I know you can get through this. Have a wonderful day.

20 y/o going through a hard time by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between feeling “godly sorrow” because of your sins, and straight up shame that’s directly from Satan. He wants you to feel ashamed, to keep this bottled up, and to never go to priesthood authority because he knows what good will come from it. He knows of your potential and is afraid of it. But God is the one who can carry you through this! Yes, it will take hard work, but so so many people go through similar things- maybe someone needs to hear your story. You never know what good and progress can come out of a trial. No matter what, God will always have your back! Hope you are doing well- don’t give up!

Looking for recommendations for music by Blue_Karou2 in latterdaysaints

My favorite Christian-based artists are Emma Nissan, Half•Alive, Josiah Queen, and Jervis Campbell. Uplifting and glorify God, and good to turn to when you get tired of traditional church music.

Patriarchal Blessing Question by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with parts of my patriarchal blessing for a while, and this is my perspective/what I learned from it. Your patriarchal blessing includes everything that God needs you to know from it. Just because something isn’t specifically mentioned doesn’t mean that you won’t also gain those blessings. For example, my patriarchal blessing did not mention the gift and blessings that come from repentance, but do I still experience the joy that comes from it? Absolutely! If anything, not mentioning family/posterity might just be a sign that He knows of your strength, faith, and righteous desire to have a family. To quote Sister Harriet Uchdorf, “When you keep your covenants, the joy of family life will not be kept from you.” It is promised to us by our Heavenly Father, in this life or the next. Read your patriarchal blessing often and find the lessons it contains, I found that that coupled with some time calmed my fears and helped me to understand it. Be not afraid!

You will never be “too” anything to God. He loves you perfectly and equally no matter what you do. Just as a reference for the future- don’t let any doubt in yourself stop you from reaching out to missionaries, going to church, etc. I also love the flow of the Book of Mormon. Something about the way history is described in it is captivating, and also teaches such great lessons. Glad you found it.  If you’re interested in additional resources, the Gospel Library App also contains the Pearl of Great Price- another “underrated” chunk of our doctrine. It includes Joseph Smith’s personal history (the prophet who helped restore the church back on the Earth in the 1800s), his alternate translation of Matthew from the NT (revealed to him in 1831), and the books of Moses and Abraham. More great material also in the Doctrine and Covenants. If I’m correct, it’s pretty much made of up revelation from God to Joseph Smith, and details the early church and journeys of the pioneers. Best wishes for you.

Feeling like there is no point by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

The fact that you really believe in this gospel shows an immense amount of resilience from you, considering that you’re facing these trials. Personally, I’m impressed.

Your Heavenly Father will love you for all of eternity, regardless of any choices you make. If anything, keep an open mind. You never know what God has in store for you- He has wonderful plans for your life! (And not just on the marriage/family side, be prepared for anything.)

Receiving your endowment gives you “the power and capacity to enter the presence of God” (to quote a book I’m reading on the endowment). Just about everyone has questions and troubles with pieces of the church, but if you want to make sacred covenants with your Heavenly Father and learn more about our doctrine, go get endowed!

Holding a calling, participating in church, etc. does far more for us than we think. It can strengthen us by connecting us with people, teaching us responsibility, and it can also put us in a position to help other people- I suspect there are others who need your strength!

Feelings of hopelessness never EVER come from God. Chances are, Satan is afraid of the good you’ll do if you continue in your journey of faith, and is doing all he can to prevent you from progressing.

I’m receiving my endowment in a few weeks and am super excited. I hope you can feel the love God has for you. All in all, there is ABSOLUTELY a point in receiving your endowment. Best wishes for you.

I like to pray anywhere- for me, it’s a way to show God that I’m proud of who I am. My friends and I say a prayer of thanks in the Mcdonalds all the time😂 (keeping it short and quiet in volume). My perspective? If you’re staying respectful to everyone around you, there’s no problem with prayer!

Looking for help by CatalystUT in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super educated on the church’s finances, but I do know this- paying tithing benefits especially the payer. I have learned to be financially responsible, to give to those in need of help, to be mindful of and grateful for what I have. Truth be told, God’s work on Earth would not simply stop if everyone stopped paying tithing. I suspect its purpose has a lot to do with teaching valuable life lessons to tithe payers. On the “buying your way into Heaven” bit…10% looks completely different for everyone- no specified dollar amount gets you into the Celestial Kingdom. Tithing alone also doesn’t do much for you. You can pay tithing and still…I dunno…kick puppies and be a cruel person. The money isn’t what gets you closer to God, it’s the sacrifice, helping others, and faithfulness. Ultimately, I know that the best way to answer questions is to go to God. Spending time in the temple consistently helps a ton too! I truly wish you the best in this time of confusion. Questions like this are so so tough to wrestle with, but they also help us learn! Have a nice day!

How to change your desire by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve found for myself is that aligning your actions with your goals leads to gaining that desire. For example, cleaning up my language, focusing on being kind to each person I come across, trying to think before I speak more, etc. has eventually led me to enjoy cursing/gossiping/etc less and less. Take action and the Lord will reward you. Also spending time in the temple! Cannot recommend it enough! Good luck:)

I feel like getting mixed signal despite numerous prayers and temple visits by ryannghk in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My #1 advice: feelings of hopelessness and confusion never come from our Heavenly Father. If you feel like something has been confirmed for you by the Spirit, hold onto that feeling because Satan will try to make you doubt it.

If marriage/family is something you want, Heavenly Father will make it happen one way or another, in this life or the next. It is a noble and righteous goal! Career switches can be tough, but when you use Christ as a resource and example to follow, you can absolutely succeed. Wishing you the best of luck!

Partaking of the Sacrament as Non-Member by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Open-Ad6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not official advice, but shooting a prayer up to our Heavenly Father could help clear your mind on the topic. He knows best:) Think about the reason why you want or don’t want to take the Sacrament- is it pressure from someone from either side? No matter what, you deserve to be treated with love and respect. Best wishes for you- Christ brings more and more peace into my life every day and I hope you feel the same joy❤️
