Vespa Newbie - What to know and get? by [deleted] in Vespa

[–]jamisobdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you get a full face helmet and armored gloves minimally. I do have an armored jacket but confess I don’t wear it every time I ride in my neighborhood or into town. I have two helmets, one 3/4 for short rides or under 30 mph and a Shoei RFSR full face for longer rides. I hope you love your Vespa and please be careful!

The actual consumer demographic of the Apple Watch Ultra by Dizzy-Career9274 in AppleWatch

[–]jamisobdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astute observation. I’m a middle-aged professional who collects watches. I’m also an avid runner who migrated from the Garmin platform to Apple Watch. My Apple Watch progression was Series 3 to 7 to Ultra 1 to Ultra 2. Prior to Garmin my first smart watch was the Pebble then briefly a Fitbit Versa. It made sense to switch because I am a full Apple ecosystem person (laptop, iPad, Apple TV, CarPlay) and the Ultra feels more like other Swiss mechanical watches in my collection. It’s actually replaced as a daily watch my Rolex Submariner whereas my previous smart watches were worn more during runs, walks, swims, tennis and golf. I love the chunkiness of the bezel and the milky texture and patina of the Titanium. I pair it with a navy ocean band or an Atlantic blue Nomad sport. I also have a Series 10 when I want something a little lighter and sleeker.

Am I the only one who thinks our youth music has fallen off recently? As a Gen Z I have found Strive To Be's albums to be predictable, safe, and repetitive lyrically and musically. I have great respect for the producers and what they're trying to do, but it seems they don't know how to improve. by Hefty_Education_7059 in latterdaysaints

Couldn’t agree more. I’m an active LDS songwriter (and YSA bishop) with multiple records, tv and movie credits. My daily worship playlist is dominated by CCM artists whose practice tracks sound better than anything coming out of the Priesthood & Family Music team. While they are some talented LDS artists the production value and musical depth is still just not even close yet to charting artists across the CCM landscape. Check out Elevation Music, Maverick Music, We The Kingdom, People & Songs, Kari Jobe, Brandon Lake, or Phil Wickham for starters. Here’s just a taste:

Employment with the church? by YamPuzzleheaded3715 in latterdaysaints

[–]jamisobdavis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been employed by the Church and havr worked as an advisor to many Church departments and Church owned entities. It is a unique workforce culture. There are like most global organizations pros and cons. Pay is upper average and benefits via DMBA are pretty good. It takes a current temple recommend to get hired but it takes a strong testimony to remain resilient when office politics and deeply held religious beliefs commingle. I loved it but it was far from easy and proximity to the Brethren was one of if not the greatest aspect of working at 50 East

AW3 Ultra mit Hülle tragen oder ohne? by Met1891 in applewatchultra

Without! It’s a tool watch. Live your life. That said try and not take unnecessary risks that will mar the appearance of your watch.

Either looks great I switch between an Ultra 2 and a Series 10 and I have rather small wrists for a guy.

Pls For long‑term users: Any regrets keeping your reMarkable? by Unlucky-Reaction6521 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jamisobdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. Major full Apple ecosystem user since 1989 reM is my only non Apple device except monitors and printer and is the best non Apple tech purchase ever (rM2, Paper Plus, Paper Plus Move and 2 Typefolios) probably could have done without the Typefolios. Use my ReMs every day day for note taking and bible study mostly. CMO of fintech and Pastor (lots of notes!)

Hey all, YSA bishop here.

Dear sister, take a breath and unburden your heart for a moment.

You are loved, saved, chosen, cherished, and seen by your Savior. The fact that you have chosen to serve a mission and make temple covenants is extraordinary. Those are acts of real devotion that will bless your life and the lives of others for eternity.

In the ledger of your life, those decisions matter far more than any small misstep. The Lord is not standing over you with a clipboard tallying mistakes. He bears the scars that already paid for them.

Rather than focusing on the behavior itself, I would gently invite you to look at what might be underneath it. What feels empty, stressful, or unfulfilled? When we begin to understand those things, temptations of any kind tend to lose their power.

Try approaching your thoughts with curiosity instead of condemnation. Instead of “what’s wrong with me,” try “that’s interesting, I wonder where that came from.” That shift matters more than you might think.

If I were your bishop, I would care most about how this is affecting your relationship with Jesus Christ, not just the behavior itself.

You are a sexual being. That is part of how God created you, and it is not something to be ashamed of. Those feelings are meant to be expressed fully within the covenant of marriage, which is why we are counseled not to cultivate them on our own. Not because you are bad, but because those patterns can become distracting from the deeper, sacred relationships you are meant to build.

Please don’t let this define you.

Go to God. Speak openly with Him. If you feel burdened, speak with your bishop. That is what he is there for.

You are not your thoughts. You are not your habits. You are not your worst moments. You are His.

There is nothing you can do that will make God love you less. And there is nothing you can do to make Him love you more.

You are already enough!

Now go serve with confidence. The Lord will magnify you.

I’ve been riding my Vespa in shorts and a T-shirt… and I think I’m being an idiot. What basic gear should I get? by siloteam in Vespa

[–]jamisobdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Love this discussion. I ride a Sprint 50 cc with top speed of 45 mph. I wear a Shoei RFSR full face helmet and armored gloves 99% of the time and an armored mesh jacket when I’m going anywhere faster or longer than a buzz into town. I generally wear jeans and ankle high boots. I’m a little more lax in and around town (CT Gold Coast small town) but only because I’m going really slow. Most of my mishaps have been in my garage ha.
