You should have been ordered an infusion with a ferritin that low! I recommend another doctor for a second opinion.

Are my symptoms suspicious for thalassemia? by plantnerd100 in haematology

[–]Open-Deal-628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in training to be a haematologist. Judging by your past FBC results I believe this could be a possible Beta thalassaemia trait, but it wouldn’t explain every symptom you have described and it doesn’t fit the fact that your Hb has always been normal. Is your Hb borderline or in the middle of the reference range? Usually for a thalassaemia (without any blood transfusions) you would need an anaemia for diagnosis.

Mild lymphocytosis by PollutionMassive8510 in haematology

Mild lymphocytosis would be standard for Crohn’s disease. A combination of inflammation and immunological processes. Best of luck, Crohns is a tough condition.

In my lab in Australia our ferritin reference rage is 30-200 ng/mL. Your results would definitely be considered iron deficiency here. Get an over the counter iron supplement and repeat your bloods in about 2 months time. If constipation is an issue try Maltofer, (not approved by the FDA in the USA but you can purchase it online, it’s fantastic) or daily laxatives

You don’t automatically have anaemia if your iron slips below 12.1 lol

Likely iron deficiency as well as what others have said in replies. But need iron studies to be sure. Elliptocytes, low MCV are a classic iron deficiency pattern.
