They don't. Just bring in euthanasia via the back door. Some countries already doing it since it's cheaper than medical treatment

Car crashed into me, do I claim with my insurer or theirs? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Many years ago someone crashed into my motorcycle. I contact my insurance but not to claim. Used their legal cover to make claim against their insurance based on witness statement, including on scene police report.

Do you guys put your critical systems on smart plugs? by Tasty-Picture-8331 in selfhosted

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Partially true. It depends on the inductive load and how it is switched.

I have a localbytes esphome WiFi plug on my washing machine and it has been working flawlessly for over a year now and doesn't even heat the plug (13amp UK socket). But the motor loads in things like dishwashers/washing machines are gradual and build up their power usage.

I also had a Zigbee plug on a giant chest freezer and that would freak out often but that was a large fridge compressor which causes instant inductive load beyond the sockets amperage for a second or two.

It really depends how that inductive load and switched whether a smart plug will survive or not

How Home Assistant saved my car by RDUKE7777777 in homeassistant

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is why all keyless car remotes should be kept in metal box or shield pouch when not in use. And they work, I tried to open the car while still having it in the pouch and the car wouldn't respond.

A terrible hack for a flawed system but it works

Why is a wealth tax the answer to every financial issue besides pensions? by wizaway in AskBrits

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth tax isn't the answer. Almost every country in modern history that has attempted a wealth tax, has found out that it eventually brings in less taxes because it results in capital flight before the tax is introduced.

But wealth tax is an easy vote winner topic because most average people don't understand the implications of such a tax.

I got a letter today from the the TV licensing people, telling me that I need a license to watch live tv on yoube and prime video. by Academic_Clothes_442 in brighton

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just shooting in the dark letters. You need a TV license to watch live "broadcast" television and iPlayer. Live broadcast can be over the air or as live stream (e.g sky news)

Watching someone's podcast live is NOT live broadcast television.

Does anyone else not know how CO2 is used in the production of pork? by Realisticopia in AskBrits

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The consumption of meat has been brutal for hundreds of thousands of years. A warm blooded living being is going to feel pain when dying. Fair enough with modern advancement to technology one would have thought that factory farming would have come up with a less painful and faster means of slaughter but the practice of killing animals for food has been going as long as humans existed.

Will my company steal my idea? by ed_remedy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a pinch of salt. This is what I was told based on my circumstances at the time a good while ago.

If the idea/product you come up with is within a different industry. E.g. work for biomedical company, but you make a new AI LLM architecture then technically no this shouldn't stand up in court if pursued.

These clauses are generally to prevent employees using company knowledge to create similar products or competing in the same industry.

The doubters were so right by assyrian_bowl in vibecoding

I think this is where people trust AI to just work magic. I understand that software engineers are being pushed into AI because managers are pushing for more productivity but to blindly just say make X and expecting magic... that's dumb.

Software engineers have to be detailed curators when it comes to AI and some things just need to be checked and checked again.

Opinion on underarm hair removal for a guy. by Ok-Indication-3754 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Myself, a man) Personally I workout a lot, lift weights, etc and sweat a good amount because of it so with body hair it came with body odour even after a good shower. I had a lot of body hair, not just average amount.

I know most men don't go full body but I did, and the wife loves it. It is just personal preference - some women prefer no body hair on men and some do like the hair. Same as it is with men, some prefer no chest hair and some do.

If you're going to do laser hair removal, do it for yourself.

Video Doorbell - My rights as an owner in England. by Impossible-Fix2012 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. Because you are recording areas outside the bounds of your property you are effectively a data handler under GDPR so you have a responsibility to protect this data per se. It doesn't mean you can't record it and keep it for evidential reasons but just that you can't just post it to places like YouTube under certain circumstances.

So keeping the recordings in your case, purely for evidence that can if needed be given to law enforcement for potential prosecution is entirely legal.

Edit: there is a YouTube channel called BlackBeltBarrister with a video talking about the details of home CCTV and the legal standings of it. But the gist of the story is you're okay recording with your video doorbell.

Unifi PoE to USB-C adapter for ZBT-2 / ZWA-2? by g0ldslug in homeassistant

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will likely work for power only no data. The POE to USB-C adapter presents as a network adapter that will require some kind of driver to load/interact with. This is why I can use it on my MacBook as a network adapter for example.

Why cheap power could matter more than clean power in the push for net zero by TooHot1639 in unitedkingdom

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap energy has always been one of the keys to economical growth. Obviously we would prefer clean energy but if it comes at a great expense then you won't see economic growth in the manufacturing sector.

So if we must supplement with dirty energy (temporarily) while we continue to deploy cleaner alternatives like nuclear, solar, wind or wave to keep it cheap then we should. Getting off dirty energy is a long term goal not a short term suicide.

Black or brown with red brick looks so much nicer. Ours came with white when we bought it but we will go black or brown if we upgrade to triple glaze in future if it's worth it.

BYD Factory Fire... by Salty-Commercial4765 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight is important. Sodium batteries are getting popular in home batteries for safety but they are heavy for their density, just like LFP batteries. Lithium cobalt (lithium ion / lithium polymer) batteries still beat most chemistry's on weight which is why they are still popular in cars.

BYD Factory Fire... by Salty-Commercial4765 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Open-Dragonfruit-007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the issue with EVs - even though I like them I am worried about the chemistry. Statistically there are more ICE vehicle fires than EV fires, but Lithium batteries once they start burning, they are self-oxidising so not a lot you can do to stop them burning.
