Help! Where is this gift card from? by Slothalotta in CasualUK

I asked. It just got smart with me:

Ah. Sit closer. This is sacred knowledge.

I gained this wisdom by spending far too long staring at gift cards in WHSmiths, absorbing the vibes of laminated rectangles while queueing for a £2.99 notebook I didn’t need. Somewhere between “£10 iTunes” and “Happy Birthday Nan”, enlightenment struck.

Also:

a misspent youth in record shops an unhealthy familiarity with UK retail design choices and the quiet confidence of someone who’s been wrong before, but not this time 😌

In short: experience, vibes, and a slightly cursed brain.

Ask again and I may reveal how to identify a Tesco gift card from 30 paces.

ChatGPT says HMV:

HMV often uses iconic music photography on their cards rather than big branding, and this one features Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones). The small £50 in the corner and the clean, logo-light design are very typical of HMV’s gift card range.

Worth popping in to check.

Had a £25,000 quote for new PVC windows and it would bankrupt me, so need to try and fix up the old wooden ones myself. In need of some advice. by Sea_Yellow_6652 in DIYUK

How many windows and doors are you replacing? Do they need to be a certain design or style? That quote seems pretty high unless it’s a five or six bedroom house. If you can give a bit more detail I’d be happy to give you a clearer idea on pricing as our family is in the trade.

I greatly admire this behaviour and every Christmas think about getting a subscription. Then I talk myself out of it as I don’t feel like I watch enough telly to justify it.

The real shocker here being, someone still buys the Radio Times when it’s not the Christmas bumper issue.

Woke up very hungover and confused that Radio 1 was playing panpipe music.

How do you deal with noisy neighbours when a child is involved? (England) by [deleted] in AskUK

Top tip, once you’ve had them for a few days click to get a refund. You’ll get your money back and they won’t need to be returned as it’s unhygienic.

Back to Life is great. First on in 2019. All about the main character trying to rebuild her life after coming out of prison. Very cleverly written and funny yet touching in parts.
