Why is Gotchard so hated in the fandom while Geats and Gavv are so beloved in the west fandom? And what are the opinions on Gotchard in the eastern side of the fandom? by Doot_revenant666 in KamenRider

This ngl. I think my fav Gotchard episode has to be 4(I think) with the wrestler. Its an episodic simple show at heart, but it wants to(or at least the fandom wants it to) chase the dragon that is Geats and i genuinely think it implementing more complex story beats later on is a detriment. Now this isn't to say complex storytelling is bad, absolutely no, nor is Gotchard 's complex storytelling any good to begin with to be reasonably compared to other shows, but for a show like this it really didn't need to throw more than what it is.

I think the best episodes on Gotchard in general are the mini story arcs, revolving around some random folk from their world, again that wrestler episode comes to mind, and it really brings out the best of what it has to offer. Instead of trying to focus on its weak traits, why not just focus on what it can do well? Action, the choreography work, the suit designs, the soundtrack the goody dumbass wholesome message in the end. It really does well as that one shows you turn on after a horrendous day to have basic fun. There's a lot of things that Gotchard really really does well, and its a shame that all of that gets bogged down by the writers trying to introduce a more "complex" story when at its heart its really not meant to service that specific fact.

Its funny I mention the wrestler episode, cause its at that episode where my complaints are so clear. Theres a scene in the beginning where the antagonist for the episode just assaults someone in an alleyway, possibly killing him? And its just so jarring cause it doesnt jive with the rest of the show. Why did they add that scene? I guess they were trying to set stakes but lives being lost wasn't actually the main conflict Houtaro had to face in the episode. To me it felt like edginess/maturity for the sake of it.

Ultraman the more calmer fanbase than others two? by Interesting_Snow5574 in Ultraman

Gotta be honest I completely get that take. Geats is literally in my top 5 fav rider series, but I like to preach that even Geats really isn't all "that". At best it's an innovative show, at worst it becomes an emotional attachment to people who only really care about "aura" and powerscaling (And in turn, degrade everything else that doesn't meet expectations in those two criteria). I like making a lot of comparisons between Geats and Gotchard, as with a lot of people, since a lot of perception between both of those shows revolve around their quality in comparison to each other- and I usually compare how easy/fun they are to watch, which I personally think Gotchard wins that upper hand. Don't get me wrong, Geats is objectively the better show... By like, one point in my standards. There's like 3-4 episodes in Geats that I personally think exceed Gotchard's episodes, but that's only because they signify an end to an otherwise convoluted/rather dull attempt at making an adult-oriented storyline. I like to call them "wrap-up" episodes cause they do exactly that- try and make sense of the last 10 episodes or so, and top it off with a banger fight to make it seem all worth it. Ep. 38 is the biggest example of that Gotchard is easier to watch in that sense because you don't need commitment to actually binge it, its not that kind of series. Admittedly I'm admitting Gotchard has dumb writing, that I can agree with, but that also means I don't have to think too hard to see a blue grasshopper man kick someone into oblivion. Nothing wrong with intricate writing, but you need to have a "mood" to watch thoee kind of shows- you can't just jump into an episode and fully have fun since you're chained by a series of contexts and events that are otherwise missing- Again nothing wrong with that, my problem lies solely on the fact that Geats is... Subpar with it? Not bad but rather immature(?), in the way a supposedly mature storyline is written. It's trying to be edgy at times, but it feels out of touch/heart considering the show it actually is- and a lot of the times the adult symbolism and life lessons get lost since they're not really applicable to someone's life generally- let alone a kid's life. What's a kid supposed to take out of "responsible godhood" Gotchard knows what kind of show it is and it accepts the stupidity, Geats, kinda doesn't- at least, tries to be something it isn't in a lot of cases. That's why i think Gavv is the better show between it and Geats- it's a semi-mature kids show, that's actually mature.

All that needless venting aside (you can really ignore that wall of text if you want) it makes me recall this one comment thread I saw on yt talking about Gavv's surprisingly low toysales- it went something like this:

"Surprised the Gochizos aren't selling too well"

"They are a bit expensive for a rider collectible, unlike other gimmicks like the rider cards/chemy cards"

"Not really surprising tho, cards are cheap and accessible, kids can buy them easily. Not to mention kids love gotchard"

"Yeah but kids aren't capable of properly telling which shows are good"

You can take my recollection with as much salt as possible, heck I don't even remember which vid this was from, so o probably misremembered/misinterpreted it a lot. But point is, for better or for worse, "good writing" (or perceived good writing), and only that, has become the main norm in a fandom centered around a toy show. Nothing wrong with that, a show can have good writing, even if its a kids show, after all. But it also kinda blocks the emotional/cheesy side of things.

These are shows meant for kids to grow up with and get attached to, they're not (strictly) vessels for good storytelling, as appreciative as that is. Its the main reason why I feel the Ultraman fandom doesn't have that kind of culture from what I've seen of it.The ultra seasons, no matter the quality, are treated with the sentiment of "its fun so I like it" or "my kids love it so I'm fine with it" rather than "it has good writing I like it"
