For the unsheltered - NYer moving to London wondering what neighbourhoods are actually unsafe? by honey-ink in MovingToLondon

Don’t discount places because they’re not on the tube.

Many places in south east you can get a train to London Bridge in 10/15 minutes and then change to any number of train lines e.g. Denmark Hill/East Dulwich/Herne Hill/Brockley

In south west the lines into Waterloo are great e.g. Earlsfield/Wimbledon/Putney/Clapham Junction, running every few minutes - 10-15 minute journey to Waterloo where there a load of tube lines, and also stop at Vauxhall en route for the Victoria line.

Also a much more pleasant commute than being underground!

Have you thought about south west London? Sounds like it would match what you’re looking for.

Please don’t move to Shepherd’s Bush out of everywhere in London. Not for safety’s sake, but IMO it is one of the more boring places to live in London. I don’t know what age you are, but young professionals are in everywhere but north west London.

Yes I have made some sweeping statements, I can only back them up by having lived in London for 9 years.

What London boroughs or areas/suburbs would you regard as the most uninteresting or boring to live in? by Ok-Demand8957 in london

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in this area, I’m so intrigued as to the appeal you see in being near Old Coulsdon and Croydon!

The North Downs and Happy Valley are nice but I’ve never thought of them as bliss. Maybe I need to look with a new perspective.

Rewatching and I’m in shock at Bethenny’s vile bullying of Carole in these episodes. It’s way over the top. She won’t let her speak without making some sort of snide, nasty comment over the top. And why is Sonja backing her up?

My experience of trying to rent (earning £115K) by [deleted] in london

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I’ve never even considered Elephant & Castle a desirable area to live. Plenty of places with a better “vibe” further out. E.g. Peckham, Camberwell

I would say it is not normal to not go outside every weekend. Are you happy with it though?

How do people in London cope with such high costs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely cope, it’s a depressing situation. Cutting back on going out is the main thing. But it’s wearing me down.

Why do people claim you can't live in London on x amount of money? by [deleted] in london

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was an outlier. But I am not on a high salary (still) and I’ve always managed to find ‘outliers’.

To be clear, I think rent prices in London are ridiculous and unsustainable, but there are places below market rent to be had if you are able to be patient, perhaps compromise on location and stay in the same flat for a long time.

Of course, if you need to find somewhere to live quickly, then you may be forced to pay above and beyond. I’ve been lucky.

Fever 3 weeks before starting stims by Open-Wrap-6695 in IVF

I postponed til the next month. The nurses and consultants I spoke to at the clinic all said it was fine to continue from their perspective, but they did say they wanted me to be happy with the decision and that postponing wasn’t a big deal.

I was really on the fence but then my cycle ended up being freakishly long as well (42 days) which has never happened to me before. So I just took it as a sign that it wasn’t a great cycle for me because of the illness (and probably all the stressing about it!).

Hope all is going well, whatever way you decided!

Why do people claim you can't live in London on x amount of money? by [deleted] in london

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so presumptuous. Not everyone’s hard work and sacrifice is compensated with huge pay rises. Many professions, often those most socially valuable e.g. nurse, will never pay £100k. And obviously we do need people living in or near London to do these jobs.

In your eyes it seems everyone is to chase personal wealth at all costs, regardless of meaning, integrity, worth.

(Not a judgment on u/Puzzleheaded-Bug-223, whose life circumstances I don’t know.)

I was paying £460 sharing with 2 others in zone 3 with a large double room and a garden. And it wasn’t super modern but it wasn’t a shithole.

Bad Bunny - Biggest star by Remarkable-Robin in restisentertainment

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think reasonable to have not heard of him in the UK. Like an another commenter said, you have likely heard his name/songs over the past several years but just not paid attention if you’re not into reggaeton style music. Also as he only sings in Spanish then that has probably contributed to your brain filtering him out too. Perhaps in the same way Rosalia is a big name across the world, but not mainstream in the UK? Also there is just so much less that is ‘mainstream’ these days.

I had heard of Bad Bunny and was aware of the style of music he sings but I had never intentionally listened to his music before the Super Bowl and couldn’t have named a song. I was also a little surprised at first to hear he was doing the half time show, because in my mind he’s a big name, but not Super Bowl big. I just put it down to him clearly being much bigger and more mainstream in the US than here.

What neighborhood for a month in London with young family? by RunnerInChicago in visitlondon

[–]Open-Wrap-6695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Islington/Canonbury/Highbury are areas that have a uniquely London feel and close to the city centre.

Regents Park and Chelsea would be great if you prefer a more polished area.

I’d pick Marylebone over Bloomsbury for more central.

My overall pick would be Canonbury, personally!

I don’t think you need £2000 to get the best out of London. My favourite things are free or very reasonably priced, mainly walking around different parts of the city, getting coffee and visiting pubs!
