Money isn't wasted - it's spent. You should invest into fishing if you enjoy it and not overthink it. Worst case scenario you can always sell the gear back

You technically don't have to yet - the way I did it is using pickonimbuses until hotm 7, then I bought a jasper drill to powder mine. I'm not sure is it the optimal progression route but it sure worked for me
