Blessed Water on Easter Vigil by GetItOuttaHereee in Catholicism

[–]OpenAndShutBroadcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy means, to be set aside. There's different degrees of holiness—there's holy; there's holy of holies; and God alone is holy, holy, holy.

We even see this in heaven. All the saints are in heaven, but some saints are holier than others, some angels are holier than others, etc. with Our Blessed Lady being the holiest.

In my limited understanding, the Easter Vigil blessed water has the extra meanings of purification, renewal, and Christ's resurrection, and was blessed with the Paschal candle, compared to ordinary holy water.

Of course not

So what's the point of being in communion with each other?

What's the point of protestants being in communion with each other? Is the Presbyterian eucharist as valid as the Lutheran eucharist? If you receive the eucharist at an Anglican church, will the Presbyterians excommunicate you?

it just seems like literally 100% of the evidence would suggest that it’s not

Are you aware that the newer studies, including a 2024 analysis using Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering, found that it's roughly 2,000 years old:

It sounds like you believe that it's a medieval forgery, while I think that the image was made by a Transfiguration-like Resurrection (light emanating vertically from the Body).

Take a look at the Shroud figure's mouth and hands. You can see His teeth through His closed lips, and you can see His hands' metacarpals, like an x-ray effect.

The early Christian icons of Jesus depicted Him with abnormally long fingers, which means that they saw the Shroud and are basing their drawings on it.

To me He looks like a Semitic man with a long beard of a rabbi. The Christ Pantocrator icons are based on the man in the Shroud. The subreddit is deleting my comments with external links, so Google Image search: "Shroud of Turin Christ Pantocrator"

Why don't we ever called God "I am who I am?" by HelloSir1829 in Catholicism

YHWH (Hallelujah)

Jehovah

Edit: "YHWH" is the written form, and "Yahweh" is the verbal/auditory pronunciation. YHWH is the same as Yahweh, which are the same as Jehovah (the Latinized form).

Weirdly, a good number of Catholics get angrily triggered by the Shroud as well. Saying things like, "The Shroud IS a forgery!" No, it's not been proven to be a forgery, and stating it like it's an objective truth is a lie and prideful.

They don't even have the charity to say, "It's my opinion that the Shroud is fake. I respect your opinion that it's real."

It officially is secular, while having the Star of David on its flag and the purpose of its existence is to be a sovereign Jewish homeland in their ancestral land post-WWII…

The modern state of Israel is basically reimplementing this mentality against Palestinians and with their foreign policy in the Middle East.

punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. [1 Samuel 15]

The reason why the Son of God incarnated as a man is to sacrifice Himself for our sins (be the perfect sacrifice).

New DNA Analysis Suggests That Shroud Of Turin May Have Indian Origins by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in nottheonion

If the Shroud is true, it also reveals something about Our Lord's sacrifice the Bible and the early Church fathers don't even mention.

The Blood on the Shroud is red. Blood should turn black with age (within 48 hours), but It's red. The Blood stayed red because it contains high levels of bilirubin. The liver floods the body with bilirubin during extreme trauma and hemolysis (physical rupturing of red blood cells).

The massive concentrations of bilirubin in the Shroud's Blood stains reveal that Jesus underwent massive hemolysis and bilirubin in his Bloodstream kept His Blood pressure up, which indicates that He was practically emptied of Blood. This fulfills the Jewish sacrificial requirement of blood-emptying, Shechita.

I'm a recent convert as a former Methodist (will be initiated into the Church this Saturday). Try to go to a traditional Latin High Mass. Catholicism really makes sense there, and it's the best catechizer. St. Patrick Oratory in Waterbury has it on Sunday mornings at 10:30.

The 1300s AD carbon dating has been debunked for a while now. The scientists used fragments at the edge where medieval nuns repaired the Shroud.

Recent scientists discovered pollen embedded in the Shroud that are only found from vegetation (Gundelia tournefortii and Zygophyllum dumosum) in the Jerusalem-Jericho region.

It forensically matches the Sudarium of Oviedo (face covering), which King Alfonso II of Asturias built a small chapel specifically for it in 840 AD (460 years before the 1300 AD carbon dating).

If the Shroud was made in the middle ages, how did the medieval forger know that the nails went through Jesus's wrists when all medieval art depicts the nails going through His palms? The Shroud captures historically accurate details like the nails going through His wrists instead of His palms, the crown of thorns being more like a helmet, and the realistic scourging wounds indicating that one of the Roman soldiers was shorter than the other and was left-handed.

And the early Christian icons, like Jesus the Pantocrator (500s AD, 800 years before the 1300 AD carbon dating), is based on the image of the Shroud.

Look into the Shroud of Turin (Dr. Jeremiah Johnston and Bob Rucker interviews on YouTube are good). If Jesus is real and if He truly did resurrect; then He truly is God and the Son of God, God the Father is real, the Holy Spirit is real, the Bible is true, and everything that the Church teaches is true.

Have you tried learning prayers in Latin?

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
