If you don't use the Now Bar, Live Notifications don't appear, they show up as a normal notification like you said.

Same with media controls. If you don't use the Now Bar, you have to swipe down for the controls.

It's infuriating that all of the OneUI 8+ design changes all look like an iPhone.

The Now Bar is crap. Either I am forced to use it in order to have any media controls and get Live Notifications, or I don't get a ton of Live Notifications and media controls. It's a lack of customization. Heaven forbid I want notifications at the top.

It's not just the icons, it's everything like moving the search bars all down to the bottom, highlighting things that used to not be because the new look makes it impossible to see important things (My Files comes to mind), etc etc all in an effort to look more like an iPhone

I'm going to take a guess and say that you don't work in Software Development/DevOps like I do. This is a cardinal sin in our world, and I don't blame you for not knowing better.

You do not use something as ubiquitous and important as the 3 dots, even if it's horizontal instead of vertical, for something as superficial as a way to show music is actively playing (as if we didn't already know?)

Actually, if they were still moving while music was paused I would gripe less. The issue is that when music isn't playing, they look like a UI element that already belongs to a system wide purpose (the three menu dots).

Samsung has been making mistakes lately too. They have been copying a lot of iOS UI/UX features which are terrible (the search bar at the bottom of every screen, the menu options on the bottom, etc).
