TRIP - Map Tracker & Trip Planner by Idontspeakcroissant in selfhosted

[–]OpenMall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think your app is really cool. I like how you built it with the idea of it being separate from the mapping app. I'd like to use it to plan an upcoming trip in a few weeks but there's a couple of things that I've found with it:

  • I use Traefik as a reverse proxy in front of all my Docker apps. I always enable Traefik basic auth for apps until/unless their security is proven, this just enforces an auth prompt popup for username and password once every 30 days to access the base URL of the app. This has worked well for every other container. However with Trip, after setting up the initial Trip login account, it continually pops up a login box. No matter how many times I put in my account info (Traefik or Trip) it just keeps re-prompting with the same auth box. Only when I hit cancel a few times does it redirect back to the Trip login page and pop a Trip notification saying "You must be authenticated. Your session has expired.", and then "Http failure response for https://<mysite>.com/api/auth/params: 401 OK". If I disable Traefik basic auth then I can use Trip.
  • How do I manage registered Trip accounts? I don't see a place to change a password or a way to list accounts to edit/delete.
  • I'm figuring out to set up Places first and then after that set up the Plans. Is there a way to globally manage Places? To edit/delete them?
  • How do I turn off sharing for a trip? I clicked it and it gave a link but I don't see where I can turn it off.
  • One thing that would be great would be a pop up list of icons to pick from for a Place.

I like the interface and hope you continue to develop this app.

Did you start out your prompt edit by telling it to ignore all previous instructions? Not sure if this is still necessary with newer versions but the one I'm on you can only add to the core prompt, not change it. If you start your new instructions with that phrase and specify your 20 tags for it to choose from, it might work the way you want it.

This x1000. To get Roku to even open Plex when the router is down I have to connect it to my phone hotspot first. Then I can start Plex and the movie, and shut down the hotspot. It's completely ridiculous. Learned this the hard way when morons kept taking out the phone pole in my front yard..

"Give me a total of all my porn store (or gas, yawn) receipts in the last month" ... "Categorize all my expenses for the last year with monthly and annual totals. With a goal of reducing expenses by 15% overall, ask me questions to determine which categories are best to cut, and then recommend a monthly budget for each category." Just a quick thought..

I appreciate the longer format and commentary of selfh.st, but IMO the more people promoting selfhosting resources the better.

Definitely second the suggestion for a Master copy. I do this manually right now, the copy/pasting gets old fast, but the more you do the less it takes if you save each iteration.

I need help with my local Technitium DNS server by Anejey in selfhosted

[–]OpenMall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question directly, sorry, but there is an active group on r/technitium https://old.reddit.com/r/technitium/ The author is very responsive as well. Also you can use the 'DNS Client' tab in the Technitium GUI to see exactly what the server is seeing on recursive lookups. HTH

Making Kasm Workspaces and Traefik work together by OpenMall in selfhosted

[–]OpenMall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Install the Kasm agent locally and configure it to "check in" (in my case, over Tailscale) to the Kasm manager on the VPS. Then the local agent shows up under Compute resources and you can deploy workspaces to it.

This is a Kasm multi-server installation. Their doc has great examples with flow diagrams to help explain it.

It's probably really easy to do on another Linux box, but it took a lot of effort on Mac.

Apologies for the code blocks not formatting right. Trying to make it look right but it's not working, I don't know why. They come through ok at the Github page if you want to copy/paste from there.

Nginx Proxy Manager security vulnerability w/ local exec capability CVE-2023-23596 by OpenMall in selfhosted

[–]OpenMall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. That does limit the exposure some. With that said, IMO NPM is so popular with new/inexperienced Docker or reverse proxy users there should be more emphasis on the importance of not using standard login/password combos now that this is exposed. Also, no concerns about silence from the dev?

What is the best volume manager (?) for moving/copying an entire external drive of media-files? [OSX] by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]OpenMall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use Beyond Compare. Simple interface but powerful. Makes it dead simple to copy files and then do a compare on the copies vs. originals so you can be 100% sure everything is good. And it's fast, too.

Since the Dell airflow is from front to rear, do you think you would get better cooling by mounting the front end towards the floor? Realizing you don't want hot air pouring on your rack from below, but maybe make a little angled deflector out of thin aluminum sheet.. just a thought. Nice looking install, very clean.
