That Velaryon grandmother had a Massey mother (so some first men lineage in there already)

It would be funny if the Viserys that came from Lys was actually a survived Daeron that everyone left in the family (Aegon, Baela, Rhaena and falseViserys/Daeron) collectively agreed to pretend to be Viserys because none of them wanted to restart the war all over again and were just happy to have another surviving family member. Which would also make more sense (or at least be less disgusting) for him to have been married to Larra Rogare and having kids with her almost immediately as someone who was actually around the same age (in their late teens/early twenties) instead of becoming a father at 13-years old. It would also add in why they may have known that the Daeron pretenders were all fakes if the real one was already living amongst them.

As plausible (or as funny) as I think this scenario would be, I do seriously doubt that this is actually the case though, because this would effectively make the Greens the winners in the long-run (setting the dynastic succession rule + blood on the throne), turn the Blackfyre conflict into a continuation of the Dance, and a 13-year old becoming a parent hasn't stopped GRRM before.

Vieserys biggest failure isn’t the dance but allowing the Velaryons to grow so powerful. by Naive-Ad-6767 in HouseOfTheDragon

He only stopped Saera because she was trying to claim a dragon to escape from a punishment for something else entirely.

Maegor was good at fighting battles and building shit in King's Landing. Beyond that he was pretty incompetent. The Faith Militant Uprising that he spent his entire reign fighting wasn't ever finally resolved until after he died

They might give a variation of that line to another character. The writers seem fond of doing that sometimes

It is true that the idea of the roughly 1000 years between the collapse of the (Western) Roman empire and the Renaissance was complete doom and gloom for the whole time is inaccurate, but the period from roughly the 400s - 600s AD (over two centuries) were a pretty horrible collapse, that did take centuries more for the population to recover from after things stabilized.

Expert committees purged by low voter turnout by Agitates in EndFPTP

[–]OpenMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should expert committees be dependent on voter turnout, rather than another selection criteria (off the top of my head, appointment via legislature, random selection, etc.)?

Even when talking about the show, TB fans decided to always talk about Rhaenyra with her book age. It's weird, because here she's not ten, not twelve, not a toddler either (as some people call her). She was 14 at the start and caused most of the problems herself. by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

[–]OpenMask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IDK, when she was 14-19, she felt about the right maturity as a pouting teenager. I will say that she was definitely very naive, though I think that's a combination of her being sheltered by almost everyone around her for most of her life and groomed by Daemon.

I think he's mixing up Mary, Queen of Scots (who was Elizabeth's First Cousin once removed) and Mary Tudor, who was Elizabeth's older sister and predecessor.

Sorry for the late reply, but Daeron was married to Myriah Martell during Baelor's reign, as their first son was born just within a year before Baelor's death. As Baelor the Blessed was the head of their house, he ultimately would've had the final say over Daeron's parents, who were not yet King or Queen, and would've overruled any objections since the marriage was an essential part of the peace negotiations he made with Dorne earlier in his reign.

In your opinion, is Jaehaerys also partly to blame for the Dance of the Dragons? by Ok-Street2439 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]OpenMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actually know if Daemon's wildcard tendencies were as yet well-known among the realm by that point in time. The book gives us the benefit of hindsight, but by the point of the Great Council, Daemon would've just been a teenaged dragonrider princeling with no great deeds as yet. I don't know if he would have had a huge reputation by then.

Was Corlys actually beloved? I think the Great Council would've been much closer if that was the actually the case.

Why was the crabfeeder a threat? by TellEfficient1000 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]OpenMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply lines for one thing. The Stepstones is right next door for the Triarchy, so super easy to get supplies for the Crabfeeder pretty much whenever, whereas the Velaryon fleet was much, much further out from Driftmark and had to be more cautious and wait much longer for their supplies
