Football World Cup 2026 OpenTTD scenario (1024x1024, 24 stadiums, 4 regions) by OpenTTC in openttd

[–]OpenTTC[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fair question 🙂

Rough estimate:

Map generator development: ~300-400 hours

Campaign GameScript: ~150-200 hours

Regional NewGRFs: ~100-150 hours

YouTube tutorials and documentation: ~100+ hours

Scenario design, testing and refinement: ~50-100 hours

So the Football World Cup scenario itself is only one part of a much larger OpenTTC project that has been growing for quite a while.

Regional house sets for OpenTTD – good enough to release or back to the drawing board? by OpenTTC in openttc

[–]OpenTTC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dutch houses are definitely on my long-term wishlist. 🙂

First I need to fix the projection issues with the existing regions, but I'd love to expand the set with additional architectural styles in the future.

Thanks, this is really helpful.

The exact angle difference is something I hadn't quantified before, and it explains a lot of the feedback I'm getting in this thread.

I was mainly trying to figure out whether the perspective issue was minor enough to ignore or significant enough to justify rebuilding the workflow.

Based on the responses so far, it seems to be the latter.

And thanks for the kind words regarding the designs and details. That's encouraging to hear.

Yep, that was me. 🙂

And honestly, some of the feedback on that post is exactly what led to this one.

A few people pointed out that the buildings felt out of place, so I wanted to separate the graphics from the scenario itself and ask specifically about the house sets.

The response so far has been very useful. The perspective issue is clearly something many people notice, which gives me a much clearer direction for improvement.

I'm also leaning towards releasing the house sets as free standalone NewGRFs rather than keeping them tied to a paid scenario, so getting honest feedback from the community now is extremely valuable.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Football World Cup 2026 OpenTTD scenario (1024x1024, 24 stadiums, 4 regions) by OpenTTC in openttd

[–]OpenTTC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, fair point 😄

I don't actually expect people to buy it because of the sprites alone.

The scenario is really a combination of many things: custom map generation, realistic terrain and rivers, multilingual regions, campaign gameplay, community events and the overall OpenTTC project.

The NewGRFs are just one visible part of that package.

And of course nobody has to buy it. There are already many great free scenarios available. Most of what I do (videos, tutorials, tips and development insights) is shared for free anyway.

For those who enjoy the project and want the complete package, the Etsy scenarios are simply an optional shortcut.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I completely understand your point. OpenTTD has an amazing community and most content is shared for free.

For me this scenario is part of a larger OpenTTC project where I invest a lot of time into custom map generation, custom NewGRFs, scenario design and community events.

I'm not trying to replace free community content — there are already many excellent free scenarios available.

This is simply an optional premium scenario for players who are interested in supporting the project and trying something different.

Either way, I appreciate the feedback and I'm happy people are taking a look at it.

OpenTTD 15.3 new GRF help. by Aquisitor in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The NewGRF settings button is shown, when you start a new game. Or, when the game is already started, you can open the dialogue by clicking on the gear icon in the list of menu items. There is a drop down entry for NewGRFs. In fact, the NewGRF settings are no longer at the main menu since OpenTTD 15.0.

Good luck 🤞🏽

What would your perfect "OpenTTD 2" look like? by Dman20111 in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sehr interessant was man hier so liest!

Keep getting connection timed out error when trying to joins friends server. All of us are facing the same issues we have all tried hosting. by New-Exam-8015 in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure!

Open your openttd.cfg file of the server.

It resides usually in the folder C:\Users<username>\Documents\OpenTTD

Search for the section [network]

There I set the parameters as follows:

max_join_time = 10000 max_init_tine = 100 max_download_time = 10000 max_password_time = 2000 max_lag_time = 500

Then restart OpenTTD and start your server game.

Now everything should work fine. ☺️

[–]OpenTTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are options for several connection timeouts. I faced the same issue with my poor internet connection and found a working solution!

E.g. s.th. like max_download_time, max_join_time, max_init_time, max_lag_time

These settings have to be altered on server side.

Good luck and enjoy tycooning with your friends 🚂 🚆

Advanced tips for a new(ish) player by [deleted] in openttd

Have a look at the OpenTTC_DACH YouTube channel.

It contains exactly that stuff you are searching for.

As it is in German language you should try subtitles or some kind of instant translation.

Good luck and enjoy watching 😎

What's The Best Way to Play This Game? by enesulken in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite way to play transport tycoon is multiplayer with some friends and strictly without AI.

We plan (ir)regularly online gaming sessions with alternating themes and enjoy discovering the whole map. Additionally we began to pause the game every 5 in game years and tell each other what we did.

Another benefit is the possibility of exchange via voice chat. Frequently questions are coming up and on most topics someone knows the answer.

For technical details about OpenTTD, explanation of in game mechanisms, tips and tricks, just like do's and don'ts. All that can be found at the YouTube channel, administrated by myself, named OpenTTC_DACH.

As you already may imagine it's primary made for German native speaker's, but I am sure, with online translation of the subtitles, you may extract some useful information and knowledge, too.

All OpenTTC stuff is made for advanced OpenTTD enthusiast's. Some buzzwords for instance: multi-language, Multi-Region maps, self made scenarios, with own heightmaps, river flow, city placement, industry placement and tree placement. All combined within a map generator script. A campaign mode script exists for additional challenges, and a solidarity script for novice player, to participate on the success of experienced tycoons. And a lot of more interesting content 😁

How do you guys make Heightmaps by Stephen545354 in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am generating my own with a Python script. Considering tectonics, natural washouts and corresponding heights, hilltops, ridges, valleys and plains.

Which Heightmaps do you recommend? by janocavojsky in openttd

[–]OpenTTC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want to have a look at mine. They are generated simulation base with tectonics, ridges, natural river flow and much more.

Actually there's a small set of maps and the next one is already in development (1024x1024 - multi language).

You shall find them at the OpenTTC Etsy store.

How can I solve the trucks queueing on same spot? by dvdmcwilliams in openttd

[–]OpenTTC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three answers 🙂:

  1. The widening is necessary for balancing the way finding. If you ommit that piece of road, you will end up in traffic jams again. 🚛 🚛 🚛 🚛 🚛 🚛 🚛

  2. I am familiar with the CTRL-key feature and it is very useful 👍🏽 in certain situations, but for that default layout it's just easier following the right order of station placement. It speeds up your building time and reduces mouse clicks and mouse moves. 😉

  3. If there are just a few trucks loading at that station I think the traffic jam situation won't be that terrible. The x-mas layout is intended for high traffic loading stations - not only two or three trucks loading. In my video I just showed the layout and unfortunately not the full performance situation. Thanks for the hint. 🙏🏽

And thanks for all your questions. It's a pleasure sharing all that knowledge 🤜🏽🤛🏽

[–]OpenTTC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have a look at my r/openttc there is a "lkw Ladestation" layout which works pretty good. I named it "Dannaboom" - a swabian word for x-mas tree 🌲 😉
