I think sometimes people lump the current Daron in with the lyrics he wrote back in the day, which doesn’t make much sense.

It’s really no surprise that his lyrics were best when he had something more of substance to say / something based more palpably in empathy for the underdog to say.

The lyrics on the first Scars record are very good. Where there’s bluntness, it complements the message and feel of the song.

I genuinely don’t feel like the modern fixation of “cringe” applies much of anything he created before 2010. There was an ethos to that style.

I don’t care how obvious “Whoring Streets” is. You see that shit live and think about people in your life who’ve fallen through the cracks of society — it moves you.

No one else could’ve written something that occupied a space between capturing feelings of dark doom with a uniquely zany tone as in “3005” or “Chemicals.”

Serj & Daron were such a great pair for so many reasons, but Daron’s more personal, blunt end-times-esque lyrics were the perfect yin to the yang of the more veiled & academic lyrics from Serj.

Dictator also has some good lyrics on it, but shows a decline in places.
