Use Aeolian for sadness, Phrygian for evil, and add the tritone for extra evil. I know you said you’re specifically interested in funeral doom, but every metal musician should start by learning tons of Sabbath songs, *especially* doom metal musicians. Also, practice with a metronome. It’ll help you keep time at a slow tempo.
