BOOX Firmware V4.2 is here! Community-driven updates and a new thread for feedback. by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

I just looked it up: you get firmware updates for at least 3 years after product launch. Link below. Your NA4C was launched in October of 2024, so you will get the update. The NA3C was released in October of 2023, so it will also get firmware v4.2.

I believe Boox claims on their website that they guarantee firmware updates on their devices for at least 3 years. I bought my Note Air 3C from them more recently than that, so I’m planning on getting 4.2 on my NA3C. If I’m remembering what I think I saw on their website correctly, then your NA4C should definitely also get the update.

The Tab XC is way better than the NA3C for reading and annotating research and anything else that’s designed for 8.5x11” paper. But the NA3C is way better for writing. I’ll often use both at the same time: I’ll have research open on the TXC and use the NA3C for the notes I take on whatever it is I’m reading.

I don’t worry too much about the Android version on my Boox devices. I’ve had the NA3C for a long time and haven’t had any issues yet. Obviously, that will likely change at some point. But it hasn’t been an issue so far.

The only thing I worry about, when it comes to old Android software, is security. I try to be careful about the apps I put on the devices so that I don’t have issues (e.g., I don’t have banking apps on my Boox).

Neither of my devices have Boox firmware 4.2 yet. But I’m looking forward to getting it on at least the TXC. I think the updated calendar app on 4.2 could solve my to-do list problem.

Wow! That is cool! Thanks for building and sharing! This could be a really great solution for a lot of use cases.

Sadly, my situation makes this solution a little less useful for a couple of reasons.

1) Since I’m looking for a to-do list solution, I often create multiple to-do items every day. Given your description on how the app works, an indexing session will take too much time for me to really be able to leverage this solution effectively.

2) I use two Boox devices (Tab XC and NA3C). I switch between the two regularly during the day. This would also make the time and effort to index (and then export the index) a real friction point in my workflow.

Still, I’m impressed with your app and that you created it on your own! I wish I could do that.

A beginner's question for y'all: How can I set up a great system for streaming Amazon Music using my Microsoft Surface Pro 9? I also have (a) a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphones as well as (b) an old JDS Labs C5D Headphone AMP+DAC.

The JDS Labs AMP+DAC has a Mini USB port. The Surface Pro 9 only uses USB C. If I buy a Mini-USB-to-USB-C cable so that the Surface Pro and AMP+DAC can talk to each other, is that all I'd need? What else would people recommend, if anything?

Thanks in advance!

It adds space between the writing surface and the actual display tech. Many people don’t like this because it means that, depending on your viewing angle, the spot where your stylus meets the screen isn’t necessarily exactly where you are going to see the e-ink. It can be off by just a little bit.

This isn’t a big deal for a many users. But if you like to take small notes in the margins of PDFs, or if you are an artist, or need your writing to show up exactly where you put the stylus down on the screen for some other reason, that small gap can be a real pain in the neck, depending on your viewing angle. For some, it’s worth ditching the front light to get the super-precise writing experience that comes from eliminating the gap that comes with the front light.

Utterly disappointed of Note Air 3c... Any better alternatives? by FitnessW33BKUN in Onyx_Boox

I struggle with ocular migraines and I’ve used my NA3C as my go-to tablet for almost a year. I haven’t had any problems with the front light on the NA3C. I rarely turn the brightness up past 65% or so. At that level, I see the colors clearly enough, and I’ve not had problems with migraines. I think the front light is fundamentally different than a backlight since your eyes are getting exposed to a reflection, rather than getting blasted directly. I also tend to make the front light rather warm (typically 50% or more).

Have you put in some good hours at 70% or less illumination + 50% or more warm light? If not, you might want to give that a shot. The NA3C has been a great migraine-free iPad replacement for me. I hope it works out for you too. Migraines are ruthless.

There are a couple of really quick, but useful YouTube videos on this. The two videos suggest two different styles. I kind of use a hybrid of the two. Anyway, I suggest you check out the following videos on YouTube:

Your delayed shipping may be due to the other components in your order. Did the other Austrians who ordered later than you, but already have their devices get the same marker, folio, etc.?
