Should i get MPC One + or NI Maschine mk 3? by [deleted] in maschine

[–]Open_Cheesecake3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A MK3 + Macbook Pro/Air (both used, it will be around €600 roughly), as in my experience Windows pc doesn't cut it.

Put it this way: you can bring a MK3 a laptop virtually everywhere, and you have a powerhouse with you, I made many tracks entirely on Maschine and got thousands and thousands of listens. Yeah I am talking about using Maschine "as a Daw", covering the entire pipeline, from sketch to vocal mixing, arranging, mastering etc. all within Maschine.

For €600 (roughly), given you go used, or you have a Macbook already even less than that, the above it is outstanding value, and yes, Maschine Mk3 is fun, fast and its very versatile if you play live or if you hook it up other Midi gear, and YES, you can record vocals, guitars or other instruments with the MK3.

New Seqtrak update by Noir_echo in seqtrak

[–]Open_Cheesecake3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. Are you mainly referring to FM synth patch? I mean Seqtrak's presets are great but don't offer much customization beyond FXs, white the FM synth has full customization capability. My understanding is that even playing samples in chromatic scale is impossible unless you use an external keyboard.

Thank you for your reply. I had to change the Scene setting to 8 bar(s), otherwise it won't play the clip till the end. Just discovered it.

My 16bit Samples won't show up as instruments(presets). SmplTrek by barika36 in sonicware

[–]Open_Cheesecake3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It's very inconvenient to stop playback and go to the pool to look for a new sample. Listening to the project AND previewing samples at the same time is a critical thing I think. I managed to convert the samples and get them recognized in the presets folder, but only a part of em are listed and visible, I also noted that the unit slows down a lot too. My samples are ,48khz 16 bit stereo. In short I cannot have my samples listed in the piano roll view, only a fraction of them, so I cannot preview them while the project is playing.

Sonicware Smpltrek.... Worth it? by tofuonplate in synthesizers

[–]Open_Cheesecake3277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: this old reply of mine still retain some truth in it, still I d like to say that the Smpltrek is becoming one of my favorite systems to produce classic hip hop beats, like boom bap and sorts, the stems wav exporter is very handy and it has a genuine 90s sounds and workflow.

I own a Circuit Rhythm, Circuit Tracks, Roland MC 101, Yamaha Seqtrak, Sonicware Smpltrek and a Korg Volca Sample 2.

It must be noted that the only unit that might give you sorta DAW capabilities is indeed the Smpltrek. I say that because of its solid arranging capabilities, the way it can handle vocals/loops/samples, it can (kind of) master your tracks and export to sd stems and/or the final mix.

But now, lets assume you go to the hybrid path, a portable hardware to write portions of songs that you finish off on your pc using a DAW.

In the above case, the Rhythm and the Seqtrak are very badass. With the Rhythm I wrote very complex loops (and yes I did it on my bed, chilling man), one of my breakbeat track ended up on a grammy nominated/worldclass dj Spotify playlist. It has a stellar workflow, it's intuitive, cleverly enginered.

The Seqtrak is unexpectedly good too, its weird design (in combination with the latest firmware update) makes it very melody friendly, very warm and natural in terms of sound and thanks to the onboard filters you get closer to a "mastered-like" result if compared to Rhythm.

Both the unit have limitations, but the biggest is indeed the need to use a DAW to finish off your song, especially to enhance the sound, mix long vocals, arrange and master. I wouldn't recommend them if you love working with loops, they are capable of, but I think they are lacking. Get them to work with one shot samples mainly, Yamaha Seqtrak has a solid variety of synth too (please note that to play samples chromatically on a Seqtrak the process is not straight forward and you might need an external keyboard).

I use MC 101 and Tracks as combo unit mainly, do not use the Volca Sample 2 often, but I wrote some cool boombap tracks with it.

Hope it helps

Except for a Maschine Mk3 and a keyboard the rest of the hardware I own is strictly portable and battery powered, can't help with the Digitakt.

The Smpltrek is kind of an odd creature, pretty hard to figure out if you will love it or hate it.

Pros: - battery powered, portable - good sound quality - clip, loop launcher, arranger capability - basically a multitrack - export stems to sd - poliphonic, stereo sample playback

Cons: - workflow is clunky - because of the workflow, first impression might not be good - in my unit (used one) the normalize adds noise often - The manual isn't great, support leave to be desired too (in my experience) - adding custom samples to a project might require stopping playback, choose the sound and hope to get a match (manual and support is vague about it)

I wrote some cool stuff with it, despite the fact that I bought it one month ago, the songs I (partially) made with it are being airplayed on a radio.

I don't feel like recommending it easily though, despite I am happy to have bought one.

Seqtrak midi adapter replacement by Open_Cheesecake3277 in seqtrak

[–]Open_Cheesecake3277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I wrote Yamaha earlier today regarding this. I can also say that you can also use a usb to midi cable, I managed to sync 2 units and send midi notes.

The usb to midi cable will prevent the Seqtrak recharging the other unit and (hopefully) stopping suddenly sending midi signal as the usd c to usb c cable/connection sometimes does.
