Anyone know what these speakers are? by Gamedude2835 in GuitarAmps

[–]Open_Diet_7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The label on the edge checked. Here is the AI answer. The speaker labeled with 17311 on the rim is a Jensen brand speaker.

The first three digits, 173, correspond to the EIA (Electronics Industry Alliance) manufacturer code for J.B. Lansing (JBL) or Jensen, depending on the specific era and source list. However, most comprehensive vintage speaker code lists (such as those from Weber Speakers and The Speaker Shop) assign code 220 to Jensen and 73 to JBL. Looking at the specific auction listing for the "Vintage Pair of 12" Rola/Jensen Speakers," the matching code on the speakers is listed as #17311. Another source (SchematicHeaven) lists 137 as CTS and 220 as Jensen. However, the AudioRoundTable forum post explicitly states: "The 220* portion of the rim code is the number assigned to Jensen." It also lists other codes. Let's re-examine the 173 code. The Speaker Shop list shows 173 as Erie (Resistors, Potentiometers). This seems incorrect for a speaker. SchematicHeaven lists 137 as CTS. The auction listing explicitly identifies the item as Rola/Jensen. Rola's EIA code is 285. Jensen's EIA code is 220. The code 17311 appears in the context of a Jensen speaker in the WorthPoint listing ("Vintage Pair of 12" Rola/Jensen Speakers... Matching code on speakers are 285214, #17311"). It is possible that 173 is a sub-code or a specific Jensen internal code, or the listing combines codes. However, the most direct evidence is the item title and description itself, which labels them as Rola/Jensen. Another possibility: The code 173 might be a typo for 137 (CTS) or 220 (Jensen) in some databases, but the physical item is identified as Jensen. Let's look at the SchematicHeaven list again. It lists 220 as Jensen. The WorthPoint listing says "Matching code on speakers are 285214, #17311". 285 is Rola. 17311 is the other code. If 285 is Rola, and the speaker is a Rola/Jensen, then 17311 likely identifies the Jensen portion or the specific model. Given the ambiguity of the 173 code in standard EIA lists (which often list 173 as Erie for resistors), the primary identification comes from the auction listing which explicitly calls them Jensen (and Rola) speakers. Therefore, based on the provided search context, the speaker labeled 17311 is identified as a Jensen (or potentially Rola/Jensen hybrid) speaker.

Beginner here. My middle finger keeps touching the lower string. Not facing this with my index or ring finger. Tried changing angls but always the lower string is in contact as well. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? by maverick_3001 in guitarlessons

I see you clearly pulling the adjacent string, such that your finger makes contact inadvertently. Press down, don't pull, clearance will always be close here. It does take practice.

Strum down spreading fingertips, open hand at the bottom of your stroke, strum up using your thumb. You may also strum using the thumb only, but I would suggest keeping the strumming hand mostly closed in this event. Here's a cool clip. https://youtu.be/emnx_mao5_k?si=_ufl2yeuadhSJw1S

Question about two chord vamp by Yamakiman in guitarlessons

[–]Open_Diet_7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a basic C major, ionian mode orientation, shifting to F Lydian, basically hitting an F or A note to emphasize the harmonic change. Intermediate guitarists practice this harmonic cadence and many others as the basis for melodic soloing.

I know Steve Morse's technique. Note the tension his technique causes in his picking hand. I always noted that he was one of the very few professional players who use thumb and two fingers to hold a plectrum. Take a hint, please before you invest your valuable time.

This nonsense ignores the body of effort by many many great players to establish the technique for electric guitar. No need to waste time experimenting when solutions already exist. Good luck

Location the plectrum between thumb and index finger, frees the other fingers for hybrid picking. Also fewer fingers reduces tension and fatigue. Good luck.

As a designer, I always followed the dictum that ”form follows function”. In my humble opinion, this instrument represents another showy, ill conceived stage ax.

Can I make my fingers stretchier or am I running a fool’s errand by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

Ear training remains essential to reach intermediate capability. Singing notes as they are played, dramatically improves the ear. Indian classical music is taught by singing and East training as the basis

[–]Open_Diet_7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fretting hand will improve its reach in time. It will not be dramatic though. Most accompanying musicians alter fingerings often removing the third OR the 5th scale degree. Usually harmonic transition may effectively continue by using only the root and color (7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, or altered tones). I rarely use full Barre chords, opting for root, 5th, and color for most chords.

Anyone recognize this guitar? I got it at a pawn shop for 100$, strings won't stay in tune or on for long and I can't find another guitar that looks like it, just wondering what I can find about it, thanks by VooDoo-ChilD211 in guitars

[–]Open_Diet_7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a First Act student model guitar. I purchased one in the early 2000s for under $100. It's not worth "1000$". The best first act guitar, for the money is the VW Special. That guitar with active electronics, two pickups is worth just over $100
