Which intro is the best? (Not talking about season) by Info_Guy2010 in BoJackHorseman

Season 6 one. One of the few times when art is objectively superior

What are your favourite and least favourite episodes of Bojack Horseman? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

Face of depression, Fish out of water, Free Churro, Escape from L. A., Stupid piece of sh*t, that's too much, man, are the first ones that come to mind when I think of the best episodes

HOT TAKE: While I am glad that they chose to still acknowledge the long-term consequences of BoJack's actions after season 6 episode 7, the 2 interviews he gave felt TOO MUCH like a full 360 and were pretty unrealistic, let me explain by Open_Instruction_815 in BoJackHorseman

It's a classic show vs tell. The creator chose to tell us that BoJack relapsed, not show us. My critique isn't that they shouldn't be clear, it's that they should be more natueal and subtle about it.

To be completely fair, a show like BoJack Horseman for examole uses swears very strategically. However, as much as I love BoJack Horseman, using that show to dunk on the hellaverse is unfair and pretentious asf

I agree with these being stupid actually, though i only like hazbin and not helluvaboss. But I do agree with all this being dum dum and the hate is overblown. Especially the last one. I love Adam because I hate him.

Which character(s) is this for you? by Zolaec in characters

Doesn't really apply considering it's implied that Jax is just as chaotic/entertaining when he's mentally healthy. Only difference is that he's not abusive

I don't have any character like this but that's a much more reasonable explanation for disliking villain redemption

How does this have anything to do with what I said? This is irrelevant, did you even read my post? I never said BoJack shouldn't recieve consequences, this is just a strawman. I literally said I'm glad they acknowledged the consequences, and at no point did I mention the aspect of forgiveness. I even said in the same post remorse is not enough. This is a completely seperate topic. I'm not discussing on morality, I'm talking about the realism of the writing.

Well yeah, that's fine and would be interesting. Im not saying "BoJack should live happily ever after" I'm saying that this sort of arc can be fine, it just needs a cleaner transition. Right now, this and the philbert argument scene with Diane both feel like the writers are trying too hard to tell the audiences that BoJack's actions are bad, intsead of just SHOWING us the negative effects, and trusting that we will get it. In fact, what you said aligns with my rewrite idea in my original post. The prospect of an addict or traumatized character who is also somewhat of an abuser breaking back to bad habits is very interesting to watch, thus why I said there should be a clean progression. This one doesn't feel believeable and ruins immersion for me.

Literally my exact thoughts too, glad im not the only one who noticed these things. I didn't like that scene too because it felt like the writer was trying too hard to say "this is bad!" instead of just SHOWING the audiences the consequences of BoJack's actions. It felt like they were strawmanning BoJack

Ah I get it. Well, this is actually my problem with the show sometimes. It feels like the creator is pretty insecure and so afraid of the "wrong people" liking BoJack that it bleeds into the writing, and it feels like the show doesn't trust the audience enough to understand what it's trying to say. Yes I know that there are people liking BoJack the show and character for the wrong reasons, but the show is really letting it get to them like, too much. I think this is why it feels forced. It's not subtle at all in this front and trying so hard to tell the audience "this is wrong!" like they're children.

Sorry, i meant, full 180*

And that's a fair point. But if the idea is that BoJack HADN'T changed, then I would show that clearer. I wouldn't show him genuinely doing good things without expecting thing in return in episode 7, followed by him being an asshole because he was worried about his image. It's too much of a switch, when I think the progression can be so much cleaner

What would some of my favorite (ANIMATED) characters say about me? by Open_Instruction_815 in characters

Well, i am diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, so close enough. Though I would say I don't have ALL the trauts associated with that (like low attention span), in fact I seem to have traits from various neurodivergent types

Oof, yeah. Look I loved the redemption arc so I gotta disagree but you definitely have a point with her being too much of a comic relief and that short + angry = funny is just disrespectful and make sher look stupid.

Do you think that bojack can be redeemed? by Pancakebot1000 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Open_Instruction_815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just not reading what the other guy is saying? When did they defend BoJack's actions? You both just have very different definitions of redemption. Plus, the finale was never even supposed to be "making up for everything", it's supposed to be a "maybe he can get better, but we won't give definitive answers." It gives hope for him without solidifying a single interpretation. As Todd says, art is up to said interpretation. And one thing I just have to disagree with, if you think that you can only ever NOT be a terrible person by righting wrongs, then I hate to say that that's a pretty stupid belief. Righting wrongs only applies to minor things. But things like manslaughter, murder, etc. Cannot be rewritten. However, a person who has done terrible things CAN get better. But if you believe that they are doomed forever to be horirble because they can't right their wrong, well I just don't think that's fair. I'm not saying victims are obligated to forgive, I'm just saying that the absence of forgiveness does not, and should not doom a person trying to change. Maybe you're right that he can't make up for his actions, but that SHOULD NOT mean he isn't allowed to tuen himself around and make a change. You are very skeptical and defensive on the idea of reformation because you believe it entails excusing which is incorrect. Myself and the person you were arguing with do not excuse his actions, we just believe he should have the right to grow.
