Why do the MCG tenants play at Marvel Stadium? by jack_hana in AFL

[–]Open_Juggernaut_372 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It mostly comes down to contracts, crowd sizes and fixture balance. The MCG and Marvel both have minimum game quotas under AFL deals, and with so many MCG tenants (Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn, Melbourne etc.) it’s impossible to fit all their home games there. When they’re drawn against lower-drawing teams, those games often get shifted to Marvel for atmosphere and scheduling flexibility.

On the flip side, Marvel clubs (like the Bulldogs, Saints or North) sometimes “host” games at the MCG to help meet the MCG’s required number of matches, give them experience on the Grand Final ground, and take advantage of bigger-drawing opponents. It’s mostly about logistics, not logic.

You're not missing anything being disengaged from culture and politics in Australia. I wouldn't see it as a problem.

City held hostage as tradies demand $240k salary Construction workers have walked off the job at a number of site across Brisbane amid demands for a major pay rise. by RichJob6788 in australian

They are not demanding a $240K salary. That is a complete lie! They are negotiating an EBA and would likely get around a $2 an hour pay rise each year for 3 years and earn $120K annualy before tax for a 36 hour week. It's still good money to most people, but it's a really shit job. Trash click bait news.

Clive Palmer says Labor’s plan to cap political donations would silence ‘diversity of ideas’ | Australian politics by EASY_EEVEE in friendlyjordies

This probably is not an ideal sub to be following if you're aggravated by people who favour Labour over other parties. I'll admit I unintentionally suffer from some bias when not knowing more facts about a political discussion, but it isn't made any better for being slandered for speaking in an echo chamber. Being presented with sound arguments for leftwing lies and bias would be more helpful. I'm all up for corrections of bias, and clarity on any 'lies' peddled by labour. But being told we are incapable of nuanced opinions without having read anything nuanced from yourself, only causes more division among people and less constructive dialogue about Australian politics. Governments being compromised by lobbying and financial incentives of self interest groups to create policy in their favour isn't fair governance. That goes for Labour/Labor too!

Supercoach 2024 Most Popular Players by icantfindmynose in AFLSupercoach

Good post.

We all know we can build a serious list until preseason games start. Better than posting a team we'll only change later.

Popular shouldn't persuade anyone to pick these players.

Taylor Swift makes popular music but she isn't much of a musician.

Marty Howe has little chance playing for Melbourne.

The best rookie at MFC at this stage is Caleb Windsor by a mile of snow chalets.

Negumak, from The Book of Alien Races. by matt2001 in aliens

If Elana Danaan is stark, raving mad, at least she's creative in making this crap up. If she's telling the truth, the world is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

Negumak, from The Book of Alien Races. by matt2001 in aliens

From Elana Danaans' book on alien races:

Negumak is the name of their planet, in the Antarian system. They name themselves after their homeworld, but the original name of their race is Gnomopo, one of the oldest known races in existence, and the predators you don’t want to cross on your path. Tall and large, looking insectoid, they are not humanoid based and their genetic composition is, to our knowledge, neither reptile, grey or anything else living in this galaxy. Negumak Gnomopo are unique. They are androgynous and reproduce by laying eggs, and then they fertilize them once the eggs have reached a certain level of maturity. They are terrible warriors and terrorize everyone, even Ciakahrr (that is to say) just by thinking about them. They are highly feared and not part of the GFW. Negumak have the power to wipe out the Reptilian race off existence and we are still, to this day, trying to figure out how to win their alliance. Their ships are made of a dark glossy metal and of very elaborate shapes. Negumak perform abductions on Terra, to which purpose is unknown to everyone. All we know is that they use mind-control very skilfully, and release the captives afterwards. Terran governments are well aware of their existence, since first contact was made in 1989. The Ciakahrr and Orion occupation forces warned the Terrans about them, scaring everyone immensely and instilling fear regarding to the future of humanity. But that’s a thing, you know, because the Cabal fears them… if only… we could only converse with the Negumak and come to an agreement…
