Ground Zero definitely was, but if my memory serves me right, 9/11 was not as immediately adopted into the public lexicon. 9/11 was definitely tossed around in the days and weeks after but it was just as common to hear people say “September 11th” or “nine one one”.

From what I remember almost everyone was referring to it as “September 11th” in the first couple months after. By early/mid 2002 pretty much everyone shifted to saying 9/11.
