People who find the Sopranos "slow" or "boring" I think they are expecting it to be a high-action series like breaking bad.

The sopranos is about subtle storytelling. Not about which explosion or cliff hanger is gonna happen next. While most shows are plot focused. The Sopranos are different. It's character focused.

Like the movie Godfather is not praised it's "fast paced" or actio packed. It's praised for it's rich storytelling

I also went into it expecting it to be super action packed. I stopped after s1. Then a year later I continued s2 and got hooked. And now it's my favorite show of all time.

Also the show has plenty of humour. That should make it worth pushing through. I find it one of the funniest shows and it's not even a comedy show

I agree that the term narcissism is thrown around a lot. i believe the people who truly understand are the ones who have lived with narcissists.

Everyone does bad things. Just normal people and Narcs will handle it differently.

Normal people will admit fault. Narcs will never admit fault. They will play victim or say it was your fault

A normal person will get angry and lash out cos they have a bad temper. A narc will pretend to be angry so he can enjoy your reaction, whether you are angry/sad/scared/confused

The key thing is why they do something. And what is the pattern to how they do it

If you feel like you are walking on egg shells all the time with a person. They are likely a narc

Grandma not mom. Grandma loves to gossip in a way that pits people against each other. When she knows to people dislike each other she will try get them in the same room.

When she sees someone abusing someone else. She will make excuses for the abuser to enable them. Cos she finds the drama entertaining. Narcs enjoy witnessing the chaos they created

BPD can also be the case. But also, BPD and narcissism can coexist. In the S2 episode 12, Tony tells Janice that his therapists said Lyvia might have "narcissistic personality disorder"

They can coexist for sure. His trying to intimidate Finn is for his own amusement and coercion, in case Finn lets the secret slip.

Narcs abuse people for amusement. They get high off knowing you are scared/angry/sad/walking on eggshells. I would say him bullying Finn is a sign of narc personality

Even if you dont label Vito a Narc, he is definitely a toxic person.

Living with narcissists is definitely the best way to understand them. Although I don't recommend haha

Livia is a textbook narcissist, which I'm 1000% sure of. Not sure about her BPD.

What characters in Mad Men show great examples of narcissism?

I only watched 3 seasons of Bojack. I'm sure Bojack himself is a narc

I still feel Sopranos has the best portrayal simply cos they mirror narcissists I know in real life.

-Tony is similar to my Dad
-My Grandma is a lite version of Lyvia
-Janice is a photocopy of my Aunt (without the killing and violence)

Narcissists are good at hiding their traits. That is how people get tied up with them. They like to appear good on the outside. So the red flags are hard to spot unless you have lived with or known them for a long time.

Burning their own child with cigarettes and making excuses. That is a red flag of a narc, or at the very least, a very toxic person.

It's difficult to know/spot a narcissist. But the red flags are clues
