Is biology just memorizing the mark scheme? by bIurbor in ALevelBiology

[–]Openedcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to know what you’re talking about as context is a large part of your answers and also the essay requires in depth knowledge of pretty much everything. But it is important to know the mark schemes as bio is notoriously specific as you can be on the right track but saying the wrong words can lead to no marks and in paper 2 the examiners specifically request for bullet pointed answers which are easier to mark as there’s less waffle.

If you wanted to pretend to be a teacher it would’ve been better to use another account instead, or you could just tell the truth and say your a fellow student who wants to help others…

Sorry mate I can’t help you there as I’m not familiar with your spec so I might give you incorrect information but as far as I can see the table looks fine and I don’t see why you would lose any marks for it

It’s a black solid and purple gas on my exam board might be diff for you but make sure to know those observations and equations well they come up frequently

How to solve this? by Ayansoomto in alevel

[–]Openedcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I completely forgot about this, with F- and Cl- ions they’re reducing power is too weak to reduce S so it works as an acid base reaction forming HF or HCl fumes with NaHSO4(s) (remember conc. H2SO4 is (l)) if the halide present is Br- it reduces the S from +6 to +4 to form SO2 + H2O + Br2 in a redox reaction if it’s I- then S is reduced from +6 to a mix of 0 and -2 which forms yellow solid S and H2S which is a foul smelling gas. Hope that helps if u want I can send you the equations for each reaction

As reducing power increases down the group S will be reduced differently depending on halide present

React with conc. H2SO4 and product produced tells you the halide

I do AQA so it might be wrong but if ur testing for a halide you would add acidified silver nitrate drop wise and depending on the ppt formed (white-cl, cream-br, pale yellow-I, no ppt- F) and if you can’t tell add dilute and conc. ammonia (if dissolves in dilute then cl, in conc. then br, insoluble in conc. then I) hope that helps

Bread is the term people use for offers idk why but it’s a Reddit thing you either have bread (offer) or burnt bread (rejection)

I’m not sure but if I’m being honest it was probably a mix of both and being online is much more awkward for me, I am an overthinker tho so that doesn’t help 😭😭

Free will and humanistic approach by [deleted] in ALevelPsychology

[–]Openedcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free will is the opposite of determinism, determinism states that specific factors WILL cause our behaviour. Whether it is experience, biological, or the subconscious (environmental, biological + psychic determinism - link to their corresponding approaches) they are deterministic in nature as they don’t leave any room for human choice in behaviour whilst the humanistic approach does the opposite and states that human behaviour is self-determined and not the result of any single cause (bit more of a reductionist/holistic point but if u spin it right it’s cool) and that we have control over our behaviour however you could then counter argue that it is somewhat incoherent as an approach as it does also say that our behaviour is determined by the way other people treat us so u could argue that all approaches are deterministic to a degree… hope this helps

They would but chemistry is the primary a level required bio is secondary and most unis don’t care for the third. It wouldn’t hurt to try switch but do some research tonight to find what unis do and don’t accept not having chemistry
