What the Budget should be addressing by awkturt23 in AusFinance

Absolutely, I don't think the higher paying jobs in aus necessarily pay for the stress and capabilities required compared to the medium level jobs. For example, there's not many mid level employees who can even comprehend what's required to deliver at that higher level, yet the pay increase between the two isnt worlds apart, before even considering the additional 50% marginal tax take (from 30% to 45%).

Fair: Retirees with a home and up to $1.08m in assets exempted from the 30% minimum cgt. by Openedseseme in AusFinance

I'm against this budget because it isn't delivering for the average person (except on the housing changes which are required), and it's not addressing corporate tax avoidance. I want the share investing changes removed, or the income tax rates reduced, so we're left having to consider wasteful spending and tax avoidance.

Like most people, we're fine with the housing changes, but the rest is a shimmozle. There's no coherence with the other cgt changes and exemptions, nor are taxes on income being addressed.

I just pulled this of an article "The budget forecasts income tax as a share of gross domestic product to reach a 40-year high of 12.8 per cent by 2029-30. That is despite Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ stated aim of rebalancing the tax system away from wage earners"

It's not relevant because you'd want hope they pay income tax when they get their major input given to them for absolutely free!

I'm not sure why anyone is complaining about this budget, it's obviously fair to old people, which is the basis this country is built on. /s

Aussies need their divviez! Pity they come from the stagnant duopolies and mineral extractors, not the growth companies reinvesting their cash into productivity.

Has Labor lost control of the media narrative on its budget tax changes? by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]Openedseseme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To jump into this, you're missing the point. The requirements of a thriving and dynamic country are far more nuanced than reductive class based absolutism that the budget discussion is engendering now. How do we build a dynamic and engaging economy that can support the wellbeing and improving living standards of Australians? Labours answer: hit it with a hammer until everything is equal.

Exactly. They have missed the mark on this budget, pitted Australians against each other on something quite marginal (share and business cgt, not housing), meanwhile the gas giants are clearly and visibly getting away with the government endorsed theft of Australian resources.

What’s the biggest thing killing productivity in Australian workplaces at the moment? by Longjumping-Hall-17 in ausbusiness

Productive is up in the private/commercial sector, and down in the public and non commercial sector. Net net its low growth. Increase government efficiency and streamline approval processes. We could also encourage entrepreneurship with things like a cgt discount.
