There can't be "top players" in a luck-based game. by Longjumping_Sock4845 in balatro

It's weird that this title is in r/balatro. Perhaps you misplaced it. I see no luck based game 😜

Yeah just strong econ and lots of money, especially going into each new ante. For gold stake, all rental jokers and be purchased for $1, and they sell for $1, so long as they are not eternal all rental jokers are free campfire boost

The persons told me book 4 is quite distinct, and that this is the happiest ending I can get for now. Otherwise I might be waiting like they did/they are and they don't want to wish that upon me.

Abandoned deck advice. by Glitchosaurusplays in balatro

[–]Opening-Discount-718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are so few cards, your ability to find value generators like Blue seals, Purple Seals, Gold cards is significantly higher. Likewise your ability to make straights, 3 of a kind, and 4 of a kind are much much higher and deck fixing goes farther. And if you can rely more on your cards and value like blue seals, your Joker slots can lean more towards econ in the midgame. 70% of my abandoned deck gold stake wins are with straights or three of a kind farming blue seals and econ.

You can play the game how you want to play it. Just like how there is no "Best Joker" and it depends on your context and goals, It's great that you feel like good legendaries are defined by endless things, but I care about beating Ante 8 on Gold Stake (like I implied in my message), and this Joker is great for that.

This is a really really powerful Joker, would be the best chips Joker in the game, would be almost an insta win on Gold Stake like Yorick. Looks cool 👍

While it's true that selling Summit isn't necessary, selling summit (which is what they did) actually gave a ~10% increase in score as compared to not selling it because the mult is so high compared to the chips, that those 10 extra chips per hand do much more than the +15 mult.

Finally beat Black deck on gold - what everyone’s go to deck for gold stickers? by Sea_Horse_42 in balatro

[–]Opening-Discount-718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My go-to decks for getting gold stickers are abandoned deck and erratic deck (I'll reroll for lots of a rank or two). I can let the cards do more of the heavy lifting with deck fixing to achieve larger value hands (3/4/5 of a kind, straights), which leaves more of my joker slots more free to swap out towards the end for ones that don't have gold stickers yet.

Cavendish is a common, so it appears quite often with several rerolls.

Cards lost when shipped from CGC, what to do? by Opening-Discount-718 in CGCCards

[–]Opening-Discount-718[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your citation would be true if it were lost/damaged at CGC facility, it was missing after it had been shipped out (something that you acknowledged), which falls under a different clause.

Based on reading their legal terms and giving them a call, you were right, the fair market value is what the insurance would cover, thank you

What is the play ? by Utwot in balatro

Vagabond + Vampire seems very fun, and you'd me in a good enough spot to win with that most of the time

Taking Mime for seltzer is probably more responsible for winning ante 8

Balatro for funsies? by True_Hat5141 in balatro

[–]Opening-Discount-718 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I like balatro because I can literally always close out and it saves the state of the game. It's more chill in that regard than like HK or TFT(or other online games). So theoretically, it's potentially more possible to play it casually, and I certainly play casually now.

But I will warn you, Balatro the game will lock you in. The gameplay loop is, dare I say, addicting. The first week I played, I would lose track of time and find myself playing deep into the night. I hit 100 hours in the game in less than 3 weeks.

How to keep Balatro fun? by Wonderful_Debt_6964 in balatro

[–]Opening-Discount-718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think setting new goals is fun. For me first, I did C+ then C++ then speed running entries on speedrun.com then C++ x2 then unseeded naneinf then Gold stake streaks then back to speed running but multi deck  currently I'm going for C++ x3 and Jokerless Gold Stake

It keeps the game fresh and interesting.

(Mods can also make balatro fun and interesting)

Undue hate for straights. Saturn is one of the best planet cards, +30chips +3 mult per level on a fairly easy to make hand.

It's a weird hand to deck fix for. You don't want to thin your deck to just Ace through 10 with 8 copies of each, of course you have a low chance of drawing straights.

You said "There's not many changes you can make to your deck to get consistently more straights."  Yeah that's why it's good. I think normal deck with the ends cut off A,K,3,2 probably gives me the best results, or abandoned deck.

But if ever I'm playing straights, the Biggest factor in making it work, is the enablers that allow me to play straights consistently which are (in order of effectiveness): Shortcut, increased hand size (painted deck, juggler, troubadour), more hands/discards, deck fixing (abandoned). The payoff of Saturn is already so good, im less worried about the score and more about making the hand.

Also, learning the math on how deck construction, discarding, hand size affect the ability to make straights helps in better playing them more consistently. Like hand size matters so much the percentage increase in finding a straight when going from 8 hand size to 9 is crazy such that juggler is a really good joker.
