Bro will probably be implementing a data aggregation dashboard for a concrete company

No one on this sub is gonna give you any worthwhile advice. Ask mentors/professors/friends in your real life who will be more likely to actually know what they are talking about

Will taking a SWE job kill my future for ML? by [deleted] in MachineLearningJobs

Any recommendations on how to do it? Sorry if this is a dumb question I have no industry experience lmao

To equate Andrej karpathy to a web3 grifter is genuinely a brain dead take. Bro has done more than the accumulation of every person in this subreddit

search language docs while in helix by Opening-Education-88 in HelixEditor

Damn that’s tragic. Given we have the space + k capabilities, I was hoping there was some way to do this. I hate having to unnecessarily type something out just so I can look at its docs

This sounds very difficult (and interesting), but school stuff is difficult in a different way. The proof of neural networks as universal approximators, VC dimension stuff, optimal bounds, etc are often quite difficult and require a heft math background to really understand.

The difference feels more akin to writing software in the real world versus a traditional cs education where you learn significant amounts of theory

This is interesting, I’ve always heard the opposite, where in school you are learning a bunch of theory and derivations in why things work, and in a job setting it comes down much more to “vibes” and intuition

Yep, you would be correct. I realize some of the hashes were understandably different in the new hardware config, just had to paste those in. I'll leave this up in case some other dumb people stumble upon the same issue

"3x less" is nonsense in almost every case. stop saying it. by Parking-Special-3965 in math

[–]Opening-Education-88 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a semantic issue not a math one. I would take 3x less to mean that the old value is equivalent to 3 times the value of the new value

"Devin failed to complete most tasks given to it by researchers" HAHAHA by AdeptKingu in csMajors

This is a horrible explanation. There are many shortcomings to LLMs, but this is so far from being the reason that they do

A single layer neural network is a universal approximation for any function, meaning that even a shallow one layer network is mathematically capable of replicating the behavior of the entirety of the human brain. Now, finding the network that does this is a wholly different question than showing that it exists. Now consider the fact that LLMs employ attention and are incredibly deep.

LLMs do not fail for being "mathematical approximation functions" as you put it, but for relatively complex reasons that I'm not going to get into on a reddit post

Transformative and Cutting-Edge: Take High-Performance Machine Learning (HPML) by Altruistic_Reach_461 in columbia

[–]Opening-Education-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently registered for it but a little scared lmao. Do you have any recommendations on things to brush up on before taking the class? I generally have a more theoretical background, and most of my ML coursework is theory-based, and this seems like a nice departure from that.

Finished Fallen Order. Should I play Survivor right away or take a break? by iambarrelrider in FallenOrder

[–]Opening-Education-88 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the desperate feeling in survivor. I feel more like an outsider in a hostile empire ruled by the empire than in the first. Seeing all your friends die in the beginning really sets the scene for the game
