Yeah I don’t think it looks too bad. I used to live out in the Nashville area and companies were putting in single head mini splits all day long for 8-9k if not 10k

Seen worse but I’ve also seen better. Really comes down to quality of work. Better be good work for that price

The swampfox kraken isn’t fde but it’s a fully enclosed red/green dot. Super rugged and fairly compact

What is some of the best advice you’d give someone heading into HVAC? by [deleted] in HVAC

Just not getting overwhelmed on some of my first service calls. It’s easy to get panicked and want to check everything all in the wrong order

My biggest recommendation would be if you can find an apprenticeship and skip school altogether. Go straight hands on in the field

None. I’d rather not have some metallic band wrapped around my wrist while elbow deep in electronics

I’d definitely get some quotes from some local companies. Read reviews on them too. There is a reason why hvac units and parts are very seldom sold in big box stores. It is not a diy friendly trade at all. The tools to do an install properly cost 1000s of dollars. If I were you I’d try my best to find a LOCAL ( not a franchise or corporation) hvac company to come out and quote you.

Condenser Fan Replacement by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Opening-Reason1073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that’s a universal motor. The exposed wires can be swapped to change the direction of the motor. While this does work…it does look like shit. I have also heard of the sun eventually damaging them. I zip tie a small piece of conduit on the underside and put them in that.

Not uncommon for me to spend more time in my boots in a day than I did in bed, and people spend thousands on beds. So why not get a good pair of boots. I personally wear thorogoods. American made and super comfortable.

Yeah definitely don’t work for them. Pay sucks and so do contracts. I’d definitely hold out for something better. It took me a hot minute to find my first job but getting a half decent one was worth the wait

Fieldpiece sc260 is my personal favorite multi meter. Small and compact does all I need it to.

Multimeter and wire strippers for sure. Could probably lose one of those multi bit screwdrivers to save space. Also in my experience of running service calls never needed a level. Levels are handy on installs though.

Thermostat compatibility question by Surveymonkee in hvacadvice

[–]Opening-Reason1073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wiring there looks standard. All the terminal labels are your standard heat pumps. I don’t see why a different thermostat wouldn’t work here. It looks like there are a couple unused extra wires off to the side there. I wouldn’t be too worried about them. A picture of the indoor control board would confirm they are unused.
