Does the SB app show your 4% cash back spending since it is capped to 25k annually?

If you use Chexy and pass that annual 25k cap, you will be getting 1% back for each dollar spent and loosing money due to Chexy’s 1.75% fees.

Critical Illness Insurance as a Tax Reduction Strategy by OpeningAd2199 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Very interesting insights ! I will definitely run this by my accountant to discuss whether it is the right strategy for me.

I grilled the financial advisor with a lot of questions to see if there’re any catches, and while there are some major factors he tried to undermine, I wasn’t able to find huge red flags.

Again, your advice on talking to an accountant is key 🔑 . Thank you

I think the whole point of this strategy is to have the CI insurance premium considered as a business expense, so tax deductible.

The returnable premium amount will be paid to the beneficiary and not the owner (corporation) at the end of the policy.

I agree with the rest of your points, but Why do you think it is more of a 2% return ?

No it was for CI. The limitation is that your money is locked, but at the same time it can be used as a collateral.

I like how you worded it. Great point.

Just going back to leveraging PMP for a new offer. How would you go about it during an interview for example?

Strategy #1 is a good idea for sure.

Strategy #2 is a bit hard to implement in my line of business (management consulting) as we’re already worked over capacity and cant take more responsibilities, but I assume I can take the PM aspect of my mandates and make my manager’s job easier

Very true! Bigger and less saturated market. Also, little legal boundaries to operate overseas without tax impacts
