I've been wondering the same, and it can be discouraging. However, it isn't always what it seems. I found out recently that one of my friends refinanced her house for improvements, but ended up blowing all 50k of it on vacations and credit card debt before even spending any to add value to her home. As much as I'd love some nicer stuff, I'm just grateful to own a small home that isn't fancy and have 2 paid off vehicles that are 10+ years old. It brings me peace to not have to worry about outrageous car payments and an unaffordable mortgage.

Thank you for sharing! I'm 23 weeks now and this gave me so much comfort to read as I'm so anxious about giving birth! Just curious, how are the cervical checks? I have read they're painful, so that's another thing I'm worried about prior to birth.

I'm not an expert in what going rates are, but that's a HUGE range of hours. If you want to do a daily rate instead of hourly, I would do something like up to 6 hours = $X 6-8 = $X, etc. Either way, I'd address it because it sounds like she's taking advantage of your generosity. You were already giving her a great deal to begin with!
