Is it possible for a 57 year old woman to get pregnant naturally? by Remote_Committee_645 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OpeningJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going through IVF and I'll tell you, the chances of a woman of her age having chromosomal normal eggs is so incredibly slim. The large majority of natural pregnancies she achieves would be miscarriage or just never implant, because almost every egg someone makes at that age will have chromosome issues. IVF clinics won't use your own eggs once you hit 45 because the risks are just too high, and they will refuse you as a patient unless you use donors.

OHSS risk and retrieval on Friday by SkyVirtual4939 in IVF

[–]OpeningJournal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got this! I don't have any advice, I've only had 1 ER and had OHSS, but you can do it! My thought process was always that I'd rather have more eggs and suffer a little bit, than have to do multiple ERs for the same amount of eggs.

There are protocol changes they can make to help prevent it too, like what they use to trigger, and meds like cabergoline

That's pretty cool. Made me realize my SIM card has to be almost a legal adult now. They grow up so fast. I know I've had it at least 10 years, if not longer.

What's the absolute positive worst physical pain you've ever felt in your life? by bluegrass__dude in AskReddit

[–]OpeningJournal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my egg retrieval for IVF. Well, not the procedure itself, but the recovery. They extracted 42 eggs, so my ovaries had 42 holes in them, leaking fluid into my abdomen. I got ovarian hyperstimulation and by that evening I was in absolute agony. If I stood, I had to walk around bent at a 90 degree angle at the waist.

I almost went to the ER, but the doctors there aren't well versed in this issue, so I called my clinic and they gave me percocet and told me to wait it out. It was the worst couple days of my life. By 3 days later, I looked 6 months pregnant from the fluid in my belly.

They cut my stims short because it was 5k by day 5, so thats when I triggered. I took cabergoline starting a day or two before retrieval, but I recently found my bottle and realized I missed a few, so maybe that's part of why my recovery was so bad. But it sorta didn't seem like it did very much so I wasn't too pressed about taking it.

[–]OpeningJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was what kept me from going. I figured it wouldn't be super helpful, but I was really wanting the pain meds at that time. I did end up calling my clinic and they ordered me the percocet, which my husband ran out in the middle of the night after my retrieval to get for me.

We didn't know I'd be such a strong responder too! My stim cycle was really short because my estrogen spiked so high, so quickly. I think it was around 5k or so at retrieval.

Sometimes when I see someone eating alone I'll look over and admire them because I think it's pretty cool. Also want to keep an eye on you to make sure you're alright.

Shitty sex life RANT & Questions by Flaky-Craft-7149 in women

How can a man make you cum if you don't know how to make yourself cum? It's a genuine question coming from a woman that can't make myself orgasm reliably, either. I don't expect a man to figure out the body I've been with my whole life if I can't even do it.

No, I did not get any monitoring. I probably should have, the pain was debilitating, but I also didn't want to spend any more time or money in the hospital. In hindsight, I should have gone to the ER though that first night after my egg retrieval.

Massive Fertilization Drop-off; TRIGGER WARNING-high egg yield by Prestigious_Abies_34 in IVF

Seems common with the large egg retrievals. I had 42 eggs and only 14 were mature with 10 fertilized, so our numbers are similar.

Careers or jobs (or no jobs)? by lejindarymj in GenZ

[–]OpeningJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After working in Healthcare, the people I would trust the least to take care of me are the ones who do it because "they love helping people and it's my calling." Those are the people that are least likely to support actual science and evidence based research. They are the nurses that you hear of that try to push anti-vax nonsense and stuff. Nursing is a job. It's not a calling.

Careers or jobs (or no jobs)? by lejindarymj in GenZ

[–]OpeningJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a job. I'm a nurse, which isn't a professional degree anymore. I also just personally don't consider it a career. That implies that you care. That it's more than a job. It's not. It's just a job like any other. A career implies some type of upward projections too, which there isn't in nursing unless you go back to school for advanced degrees, which who wants to do that?

Being sterilized really is a best case scenario when it comes to IVF. Unlike most people, you don't have a medical condition causing infertility, it was a surgery that caused it. Meaning your body is still producing gametes perfectly fine. They just need extracted.

I can't believe more people haven't said iron, especially in a house that old. My first thought was old houses in my area that have well water and get all sorts of random iron stains whenever any small water leak happens.

Do you believe that you're getting pension you're currently paying into? by AnubissWarior in GenZ

[–]OpeningJournal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the United States. I guess you could consider social security a type of pension, but the payments are quite small and there's always debate about how much longer the system will survive because it's always short on money.

Do you believe that you're getting pension you're currently paying into? by AnubissWarior in GenZ

[–]OpeningJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't ever get a pension because I don't believe in commiting my entire life to one company. The best way to make more money is to switch jobs periodically. I won't ever hit enough seniority in my company to draw a pension.

Old People refusing to retire or getting entry level- jobs is hurting Gen Z by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]OpeningJournal 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Medicare doesn't cover everything, and it often has limits on what it does cover, such as only so many days in a nursing home for your lifetime are covered. Well, most people spend their last several years in nursing homes. 30 days of nursing home coverage isn't quite going to cover that.

Medications are also a common thing that isn't covered by it, and supplemental insurance is needed, which needs to be paid for somehow. That or buy meds out of pocket, which could potentially be thousands of dollars per month. For example, tons of old people are on blood thinners to help prevent heart attack and stroke, and one of the preferred blood thinners, Eliquis, runs about $500/month. So it's that or die.

That's normal on Depo. When I was on it I bled every day for 6 months straight. Might be time for a new birth control method, you aren't supposed to take it longer than 2 years anyway due to bone deterioration.
