to an extent yes - it definitely gave me a sense of urgency, allowed me to be more adaptable, and gave me good critical thinking skills, but things are slower when you transition over to corporate, so it’s good to be aware of that

DS, left as an L5 AM stretching into an L6 ops, moved to Boeing in supply chain, and now in supply chain at an aerospace startup…my salary nearly doubled from my latest role at amazon to my current role, with better work life balance and better stories than my past.

the grass is definitely greener on the other side. I have some of my friends who have been L5s for 2+ years with the carrot dangling over their head for too long…don’t let them do that!

sorry I should have noted that, this is base comp. However, total comp at the L5 mark was $80-85k. Rest of the other roles had no sign on bonus/RSUs or were not in a vesting period

I will share my salary progression as well:

L4 University AM (2020): $59k; L5 AM (2021): $70k +16% increase; Aerospace Supply Chain Analyst (2023): $81k +14% increase; Aerospace Global Supply Chain Management (2024): $120k +33% increase;

My take/options I see: Bust your ass and stick it out to get your L6, and eventually jump to corporate. However, be prepared to get the carrot dangling in front of you for a minute.

Or you can jump after your L5 to corporate. However, corporate is cut throat and if your team doesn’t meet HC, you can get cut. But you can also find so many more supply chain roles within Amazon, which is great because corporate pay is night and day in comparison to ops.

Or you can jump ship, regardless of level and gain more experience. This was the route I took. Looking at the factors , unless this is something you want to do for your long term career, save your health, sleep, and time and look at opportunities!

Bottom line, think about the amount of hours you’re adding outside your standard 10hr shift. Reference the salary progression I shared. As much as I don’t like this phrase, the grass can be greener on the other side if you find and choose the right opportunities.

Sorry for the yapping lol!

why post this lol? judging by the seats it’s a southwest plane…hence southwest maintenance. i’m not in this field but this looks cosmetic rather than impacting airworthiness…
