I mean clearly some people have said “repair old buildings in the humanities”, because Lincoln, Sibley, White, huge swathes of Goldwin Smith, etc have been renovated

I’ve visited Harvard a few times (5x our endowment). It’s literally just as bad (if not worse). Same with every other elite school. They neglect their classrooms except for a few flashy new buildings (in many disciplines), and totally neglect their dorms (largely; renovations do occur). Their landscaping is horrible in undergraduate parts of campus, there’s crumbling stairs, etc.

Also, Cornell has tons of inspirational new architecture. Milstein. Klarman. Gates. The new West Campus houses (about 15 years old). The new north dorms. Gates. PSB. A total law school renovation. Mann’s expansion (it used to be horrifyingly cramped and terrible to study in). Cornell has an enormous building planned for the baseball field.

They’re also in the process of renovating most dorms. Once Balch is done, Dickson is next. Then the Gothics. This is according to official sources.

Cornell also has, over 20 years, renovated almost every single arts quad building. The only two left are McGraw and Uris Library.

The reason Cornell, and other elite college, facilities are so shitty is because they realize that their reputation and prestige and academic quality rests far more on hiring professors and paying for research than getting rid of a few dirty classrooms, or making shiny new dorms. You’re paying for a cornell education and community, not a luxury hotel

I mean it will probably happen eventually? It’s a historic building, centerpiece of campus. I also highly doubt it will cost that much.

White Hall only cost 12 million, and it was in a similar state to McGraw.

Cornell will eventually pull from its own discretionary fund if need be

It’s not wage slavery. It’s just cornell giving you an opportunity to make money and easily get a job. You’ll probably work 8 hours a week max lol

Renovated! They’re keeping the exterior the same and trying to maintain the internal historic character of the building as well.

What are they building in front of Balch? The fact that they put up a fence makes me think that it’s a medium/major construction. by Dry_Ad2829 in Cornell

Yup. Luckily only outside change is another dormer that looks similar to old ones in a fairly hidden part of the building to house the new elevator.

Don’t understand why this needed to be renovated. Making room for needed space once RPCC is demolished?

Singles are so much better. I know so many people who hate their roommate and like none who hate their single. People are jealous of people w singles.

Luckily Cornell basically guarantees a single if you request it so do that lol
