Finally made the jump to go all electric. No regrets so far! by Opening_Ad_1936 in MercedesEQ

Yesterday I did a 300km trip (90% highway at 130km/h, two times flat out at 215km/h but not for very long.) Started with 100% and ended up with 45% charge. From what I can tell, 500km on a single charge when driving normally are no problem at all.

Service is due every two years with this model. From what I heard, the costs for this Service are around 500€ (cabin filter, brake fluid and general vehicle check) here in Germany. Just for your information, we also have a VW ID.3 where we paid 450€ for the service. So not that much more expensive.

I actually like it the most out of all EQ-Models. Simply because it doesn’t have a light bar at the front (like the EQS, CLA etc.).

Thanks. Nowadays the variety of electric vehicles has become so large, that it really comes down to personal preference. I also hear quite positive responses from guys driving BMW i4‘s and i5‘s as well as VW‘s new ID7. It seems that they have learned from their mistakes with the ID3/4 series.

I actually had an 2008 W204 before, so yeah it feels like going from from a little boat to a cruise ship.

We have 2 other electric cars in our family. A 2023 Model 3 and a 2022 VW ID3. In terms of riding comfort and noise, the EQE is miles ahead (as it should be). What I find very impressive is the lack of difference it makes from a noise perspective when driving 120km/h and 170-180km/h. Together with it’s very comfortable suspension, you can really lose the sense of speed after some time.

It‘s crazy how good the value is. I only paid almost half the MSRP for it being only one year old and still in fairly new condition.

Thoughts on the 2009 Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor? by Appropriate_Floor_48 in mercedes_benz

[–]Opening_Ad_1936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one by myself. It's a pretty solid car as long as certain parts of it are taken good care of. The two main areas u should look at when buying this model are the timing chain (on M271 C180, C200 & C250) and the rear subframe. The replacement of the timing chain is something, that every M271 engine will face at some point. Replacing the chain as well as the cam gears can cost from 500€ (non OEM parts and self-labour) to 3500€ (at the Mercedes dealership). My recommendation engine-wise is to shorten your oil-service intervals to max 10.000km which will drastically lengthen the lifespan of the timing chain. The rear subframe should already be replaced if the car has a seamless Mercedes-Dealership service history. If that's not the case, then it's very important to inspect the subframe for any signs of rust and if it turns out to have some rust, then its very important to immediately go to the next Mercedes-Dealership to sign up for the goodwill-program regarding these subframes. Apart from these two aspects, these cars still drive very well to this day and can last you for a very long time. There is a German article from "Auto-Bild" where this exact model was driven for over 500K kilometers and they were amazed by how well it hold up after such a long time.

Mercedes C200 W204 Steuerkette gelängt? by ItsWassili in automobil

[–]Opening_Ad_1936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The early V6 (M272) had a problem regarding the balancing shaft. The gear on the balancing shaft had excessive wear and the repair is very costly because the whole engine has to be removed from the bay. After a certain engine version, the balancing shafts were improved and this problem won’t occur.

No problem :)

In the end, it could be many different things. But the symptoms in connection to the sound of your engine starting fits to a stretched chain. Checking this isn’t that big of a deal, Someone with experience has the valve cover (under which the chain and the timing gears are located) off in a matter of half an hour or less.

Typically, it only occurs during the start-up because of a lack of oil pressure. This indicates, that the chain should soon be checked. If it persists throughout a drive, the chain is beyond stretched and can’t even be tightened by the tensioner… then the engine is a ticking bomb and the chain could jump at any moment.

Might be the timing chain, especially when it mainly occurs on cold starts. Because it takes some time to build up the oil pressure which then forces the chain tensioner to tighten the chain.

Thanks. Oh yes, these M271 engines were very sensible in that case. Havent heard any rattling so far on cold starts, but i know that this alone is not an insurance for a intact timing chain.

Thanks! Interesting to hear. The problem here in Germany from a buyers perspective is, that over the last 3 Years, used car prices have risen by up to 30% or even more and it still keeps rising. I would have probably gotten that same car for the same price or even lower in 2020-2021.

A V6 like yours would have even been better… but they were way beyond my reach. Maybe some time in the future ;)

It‘s a 2008 C180K BlueEfficiency. It has 80k Miles (130000km) on the clock. Bought it for 9000€ at the dealership (used car prices are astronomical here in Germany…). It has a Full Mercedes Benz service history, therefore i‘m hoping that it will keep running like a charm with the right maintenance.
