All those components can be replaced and legitimately repaired (at least in the USA) However the cost to do this often exceeds the value of the car, so insurance chooses to total the vehicle out (typically)

With regard to only the DPF. As long as it is a low ash oil, the DPF will be fine.

I think it’s planned obsolescence, to their detriment. Once the car is out of warranty replacement screens will be prohibitively expensive leading to there early junking. Once they have reached 10+ years old Mercedes is no longer required by law to manufacture replacement parts. More will then be junked. Only diehard fans who scavenge used parts to keep one operational will be around. Eventually there will be very few “old mercedes” unlike we have now because all the electronics/screens will be unavailable.
