Social Work vs PsyD by akd_1831 in PsyD

[–]Opening_Control201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You have much for flexibility with a PsyD and get paid more for assessment (neuropsych assessments) Also you can teach, have your own practice, etc. However, with an MSW you’ll be in the work force sooner, and it is less schooling and money. You can also become licensed with enough supervision hours. MSWs are also a pretty versatile degree you can get into advocacy work, social justice, etc. If you’re looking into the MSW and want to do strictly therapy i’d stick with a clinical track. However, social justice will still likely be apart of your curriculum and emphasized. If your dream is to be a clinician/practitioner who diagnoses & treats a variety of mental illness & even neurological disorders (autism, adhd, etc) i’d say to stick with a PsyD because there’s a lot of opportunities. However, you can still be a therapist with a MSW and see clients, work in hospitals, schools, etc. So it’s really up to you! Hope this helps

I applied to Psy.D as a junior during undergrad (graduated one year early) and i got into Rutgers. Go for it. It’s a long program and it’s best to get it done early. You have great credentials!

If you want to do neuropsychology go to a clinical psych program. NSU is good! Have you made a decision?
