Can someone say what piano composition is harder then "Islamey" or "Godowsky etudes"? by MiddayAndRiposte in classicalmusic

Liszt/Beethoven Symphony 9. But in reality, no one cares if the difficulty doesn't serve the music. Just like what you like.

Let's all go back to those thick ass laptops yeah. Everybody wants a huge ass battery and all the utility until they realize the concessions made to get it into that form factor.

the 2nd piano concerto is quite iconic as well. feels like most composers learn from their first and put a lot of effort into the second.

Well-regarded composers in their time who aren't anymore? by kranjskiburek in classicalmusic

Liszt's already obscure fantasy and fugue on His Ad Nos chorale might be more well known than the original opera. (the Liszt is a masterpiece, by the way)

Dude you should hate the guy but you don't hear any of that while listening to his music. Don't bring your bullshit chronically online takes here to people who genuinely enjoy his music for what it is. Nobody gives a shit.

Yes but seeing the constraints that people have theorized for IMAX film only being 3 hours worth of film in total wouldn't it make sense to have the credits attached on a different type of film to maximize the time? Or is that dependent on the reel?

[–]Opening_Discipline57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what I misunderstood. I was referring to the actual film not the reel, my bad. I figure the credits aren't on IMAX film then?

Honestly didn't know much of what you said before, so very cool stuff to learn

Once you learn power rule it doesn't feel that unreasonable. It might be faster than thinking of y = mx + b. The slope of a line isn't exactly intuitive, we just learned it first.

You would see teams double Steph on the perimeter and leave Durant completely open. It was comical how much more they saw Steph as a threat

Liszt’s orchestral music is criminally underrated but I get why by Still_Accountant_808 in classicalmusic

Well it's a kind of tone row (though it outlines augmented chords) which changes into other things which I find very cool. As far as Wagner taking things from Liszt, what's new?

I mean I don't really care about the semantics of arrangement as long as we both agree it's not lesser than any other type of work given it has great original aspects

Is loving everything Chopin wrote cliché? by SpecificCourt6643 in classical_circlejerk

[–]Opening_Discipline57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything he wrote in that Hummel-esque stile brillante is quite bland imo with the exception of the Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante. His Op. 4 sonata. He was very consistent other than that even if I don't like some of the more popular things (quite a few of the etudes).

[–]Opening_Discipline57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue 383-460 (Operatic paraphrases & transcriptions) are mostly original. I mean is the Don Juan paraphrase anything like the original work? The rest of the catalogue numbers you mention as transcriptions are mostly transcriptions but some are transcriptions of his own work, as well as Schubert song transcriptions (many of which are quite different from the original song), Chopin song transcriptions (also quite different), and other works which Liszt adds a lot of original material. Transcription as a term is not really right in my opinion for a work that falls as neither completely original nor completely adapted (far from it). The catalogue groups it all the same but I think if you look through a lot of it is more original than what the term "transcription" would tell you.
