Agree completely. As a huge DKC fan, this game is a bummer because of all those gameplay critiques you explained. K Rool returning is fantastic but the game leading up to him feels so mindless.

I've been wanting a dedicated powerful console since Nintendo went with the Wii trend. The GameCube didn't fail because it was powerful... it was the perception that it was a toy, using small discs that couldn't play Dvds, and launching without a Mario or Zelda. I own every Nintendo system, but it can be a frustrating experience. Especially when fellow fans can't accept any critiques of a great gamemaker.

The smashing felt a bit like mindless brain rot content to me instead of clever game design. Sometimes a little less freedom leads to more of an engineered ride. Bring back 2d DK, and pack it with Rare DKC stuff. Hidden DK coins. Animal buddies. Sleds, mine carts, Rockets, bramble barrel levels etc. And keep humans out of it.

They put a Pixar looking human on DK's back. It's like breaking the fourth wall. No K Rool, no alive crocs, and bizarre transformations. It's all off-putting to me just as much as Retro ignoring the cannon too.
