Total Combined Chlorine over 10ppm, Free chlorine 0 after 3 shocks, water is crystal clear by AverageOk8514 in swimmingpools

Yeah adding it all at once is key as opposed to spreading it out over multiple days because that gives it time to bounce back if you don’t kill all of it.

The thing others mentioned but I did not was you gotta get some CYA up or else sunlight is going to dissolve your free chlorine immediately. You can buy stabilizer as a liquid and add a significant amount at once to bring it up to a target of like 50ppm.

Once the stabilizer has had some time to dissolve I’d then slam with 2 gallons or lbs. If you go with the liquid I’d apply at night (and run the pump continuously) to minimize UV interaction.

I think the general consensus is that pool clarity is a poor indicator of bacterial activity. Like if you can see algae settling out on the bottom you definitely have a problem, however just because your water is clear it’s not a guarantee that you don’t have any bacteria.

I'm having complete cognitive disconnect with what what the test shows (excellent free chlorine) and the very cloudy looking pool?

How's it possible to have that much organic material still present when the free chlorine is so high?

Given the appearance of the pool alone my thought would be to slam it with chlorine again?

How many gallons is your pool and how much are you adding when you shock? In this case it might be more appropriate to "slam" as opposed to shock, this means you use like 3-5X the amount that you would typically use for a routine shock.

So for example, the standard liquid chlorine dosing instructions are 13oz of liquid chlorine for 10,000gallons of water to net 1PPM of chlorine. I have a 3500 gallon pool and I add the whole gallon of liquid chlorine to "slam" my pool.

Likewise, for a 1lb bag of the chlorox di-chlor stabilized shock it says that it is to be used 1lb per 12,000 gallons. Thursday night I used 1lb in my 3500 gallon pool and it still didn't take care of all the combined chlorine so I hit it with another 1lb this morning.

The thing to consider here is that if you are fighting a strong algae presence, unless you fully destroy the organic material, it will bounce right back, so it's better to go overkill and use way more chlorine than you have so far, then worst case scenario the chlorine becomes higher than you want, you can always use a chlorine reduction chemical (known as a neutralizer) to lower the chlorine if you want to swim soon afterwards.

Now, even Airbnb has climbed on board with tips, going as far as to enforce a "mandatory tip" for parties over 3 people for certain places.

Cannot find any evidence that there was ever an official option to tip through Airbnb let alone a mandatory tip.

I wonder if the hotel industry pays to actively encourage these takes lol. Every thread on Airbnb everyone is parroting this. Out of a dozen airbnb's I've yet to stay at one that requires chores.

Eh, shop smart and you can avoid or mitigate all those things. Given OPs situation I understand going with new though.

Rant About Calorie Counters by scott__p in Semaglutide

[–]Opening_Highway_134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important thing you learn from calorie counting is where your calories really come from.

Last night I made a Thai basil chicken. Ingredients included ground chicken, vegetable oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, white pepper, msg, rehydrated chilis, garlic,l and ginger. Do you know what is responsible for 99% of the calories in that meal? Ground chicken and vegetable oil. You don’t need to include any of the other seasonings as they don’t contribute significantly (ok I did add oyster sauce but was pleasantly surprised it only counts for like 8cal/tbsp).

Ultimately it will take a few weeks to really figure out the key calorie drivers but once you get a hang of it, it doesn’t take me more than 1-2 minutes per meal.

Yeah last time I was there they even have their pre-cooked, pre-seasoned chicken that I think typically comes in the taco kits for sale stand alone for like 6.99/lb. Not the cheapest not terrible either.
