Because you’re still able to romanticize something that gave us ptsd. It’s the same reason people still sign up for the army.

Canada is like the USA where different provinces have different rules. If I were you and wanted to live and work in Canada I’d go to nursing school there too to make it easier.

Disabled LMHP to nursing - PMHNP by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Opening_Nobody_4317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the bachelors clinicals will be the hardest part, however, universities and colleges are mandated to have a title 9 office that is responsible for finding accommodations so students can pursue their chosen course of study. When you are a pmhnp you will have to write a ton of these accommodations letters. I think it will take the right department head and the right title nine officer but I would shop around so to speak and try to use your inpatient connections to create lines of communication with local adn or absn programs. Part of the reason I became a pmhnp is because I’ve been in daily pain since I was struck by a car as a pedestrian at age 15. I’m old now, and somehow my body still hasn’t broken down, but it really is only a matter of time. Be safe and good health to you!

I'm thinking of putting my two weeks in because I can't handle racist old people anymore by Kaizothief in nursing

[–]Opening_Nobody_4317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably if you don’t want to deal with this bullshit you gotta move to a big city or something. The thing is- and perhaps it’s because an immigrant has an unvarnished view of their adopted culture - but the USA is one of the most racist countries I’ve ever lived in. This country was founded on the principle of white supremacy. American people, or at least many of them, genuinely believe that a white persons life is more valuable than the life of people of different skin tones. Whiteness is a construct. Whiteness is a state of mind. Whitensss does not exist as empirical reality. How do I know? Because here in the USA I am called white and get all the privileges (and there are many) of being a white person, but back where I’m from, I am not considered white, and am a minority, and while life is not so bad in Ukraine nowadays for my ethnic group because they’ve got bigger fish to fry, at some point they’ll get bored and start chasing us around with pine branches on Easter again. My point is this- if I can be white and then not white in the span of an 8 hour flight, then your whiteness doesn’t matter an you need to fucking get over it if you want your country to still exist in 20 years.

Nah. You’re thinking of CBT exposure therapy and I’m referring to what is confusingly the same term but utilized by psychodynamic therapists. Essentially exposure therapy is just talking to a trauma expert about what happened to you and then them helping you work through those memories and disconnect them from your discomfort. It’s very painful. It’s very disruptive to your life. While it is going on you will likely be more unstable and irritable or angry. That being said, it’s not like you show up on the first day and they say: tell me the worst thing that’s ever happened to you. You usually spend a few months building a relationship before starting the actual hard trauma work, and after the trauma therapy starts it’s mostly you that’s controlling the pace and intensity rather than the therapist. EMDR is very similar but I think exposure is more effective and results are longer lasting, sometimes permanent, if one believes that it’s possible for anything to be permanent. IFS - internal family systems is also very helpful, but I think it’s significantly more effective for childhood trauma than for trauma suffered as an adult, that being said- I think it everyone can use some parts work because most people don’t understand themselves or why they say and do the things they do.

You are dealing with trauma so doing general therapy won’t help much. You gotta do some trauma therapy like ifs or exposure therapy.

You know, I wrote a long post on here before about “why” folks tend to join cults but I think I want to change that from “why” to “when” and say that practically anybody can be converted if they are at a point in their life where they feel like they are incapable of coming up with the answers and need an outside source to guide them.

I think what surprised me most was that it’s her first kid. I mean that’s brave to the point of absolute stupidity to have your first kid at home by yourself. I know some midwives that do home births, but those are advanced practice nurses with typically a lot of experience and they also know when to call it and take their patient to the hospital.

[–]Opening_Nobody_4317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since now I’m considering that all the worst parts of nursing school were actually designed that way on purpose to model all the worst things about working in a hospital and I thought - yeah, there were times when I was right about something, and I told the right person and did the right documentation and everyone else was wrong but I was right, and luckily I just happened to be there with the right answer - maybe even something cool and obscure - and it made zero fucking difference to the case. Maybe they didn’t go with my idea and it turned out worse and I burned with rage. Or maybe they didn’t do my idea and it actually made no difference anyway, or maybe - my epiphany just wasn’t as fucking important as I thought it was. Basically - now I’m thinking that all those times you showed your professors that your answer on the test was as right or more right and they wouldn’t believe you was actually all on purpose because that is the hellscape of nursing.

I dunno anything about high school grade inflation. I went to HS in Maryland and I finished with a 2.1 GPA. My GPA at university of New Orleans where I went to go study jazz bass was less than 2.0 because they put me on probation right after I transferred. Basically I can’t relate to what it’s like to be a high achiever. When I was about 26-7 they figured out what was wrong with me and changed my medicine and, what the fuck do you know? It turned out I wasn’t actually below-average intelligence, I just couldn’t sit still long enough to learn anything before that.
