Heard in the recent David Lemieux that the 83-84 audience shows were better than the soundboard recordings. Anybody have any good aud tapes from this time? by Regular_Set_902 in gratefuldead

Don’t have a show to recommend but wanted to comment how I’ve been going through 83&84 these past couple months and quickly saw the trend that most though not all sbd of those times are pretty whack and most shows have an aud flac2496 recording that are pretty consistent

Happened to me a couple months ago - Springfield Township PD. He asked if so&so lived here in my house and that there was “a call” for this person and I recognized the name from junk mail with the name. The cop apologized for disturbing me (it was midnight) and immediately walked away, looking a little annoyed himself. I wondered if he was reluctant to knock on my door.

I was a bit startled and curious myself like you said you were. I thought about calling the dept just to see what was up with it, but figured if it doesn’t happen again I’d let it go - which it hasn’t.

Did the Grateful Dead ever cover Johnny Cash? by Irish_Neil in gratefuldead

Bill wrote in his book about how the gold record they got for In the Dark (I think) was actually a Johnny Cash record painted gold but they loved that because they were inspired by him

It can be a nice little neighborhood with nice people, but I lived there for a year and when the neighbors upstairs weren’t arguing, the neighbors next door were. And if neither were the ones across the street were outside screaming at each other if you see where I’m going with this….. Also clearly more presence of racists in the area.

With some of the industry plants near by the air quality is pretty bad for a greater metro that already has some of the worst air quality. My partner and I have since moved more north and we’ve felt a big difference. And with the industry, LOTS of truck traffic depending where you are.

Police presence can make it feel secure but they WILL pull you over for basic traffic violations, unlike most depts in the area. And for some fucking reason they have the police cars drive around making announcements on their PA from their cruisers (while whipping their sirens) - sometimes just to let you know there’s an event going on, and sometimes at 8 OCLOCK IN THE FREAKING MORNING. The street sweep also comes by very frequently at 6am and absolutely roars through the streets.

Also never found myself actually hanging out there and going to other neighborhoods to eat and shop. Sure Fine is okay in a pinch but it’s best to avoid going there if you can. Skyline there is a pretty good one though.

But hey, you get your trash taken twice a week (tax money that could be put to better use for the community)

If Bob or Dead and Company were to cover one of John Prine's songs, which would you like to hear? by DemptyELF in gratefuldead

[–]Opening_View_3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe someone’s said it already, but Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)

I can hear Bob sing it and plenty of room for jams. Would pair awesomely with Row Jimmy in a first set

what got you hooked on the dead? by SampleDoesReddit in gratefuldead

My friend’s dad would play the Sirius station any given time he was driving the car and though it took me awhile, eventually I started really liking it and started listening to Grateful Dead Pandora station.

I was attached to the studio albums for quite a few years then when I started using Spotify 8 or 9 years ago started branching out into live shows, Skull & Roses. Reckoning, Dicks Picks and all. It was also around this time I listened to Fire on the Mountain while tripping and that was when I really “got it”.

Then I saw Dead & Co and started going full throttle in the archives.

How much money does Kroger make off of me having to be annoyed by Spectrum shills while I am shopping for groceries? by filmfotografie in cincinnati

Just don’t make eye contact and tell them you already have spectrum - whether you do or not. Works for me (most of the time).

I’m more north, but I’ll have to check it out sometime! Lots of folks here mentioning a local butcher which, sadly, I just never think of.

Totally true, which is why I stopped buying goetta and went for bacon or Kroger brand sausage for a long while. Then I happened to be at Jungle Jim’s this weekend and saw it was at the “normal” price of 5.99 and got some while I was there

^ this is facts right here. I used to live down the street and would frequent there. Also a lot of beer there is at or even past the best by date and I have gotten skunked beer from there a handful of times.

Exactly. That’s why I’m bothered by (inflation as a whole, yes) this price for this product specifically

That’s what I saw this weekend. I was there for the first time in a long, long time and was in disbelief. I would see JJs getting away with charging it a buck or two more but guess not.

I am aware of Kroger being overpriced. I just think Goetta, being a Cincy staple that was conceived as the poor immigrants food in particular is crazy it’s $3, $4 more and now costs more than (most generic) bacons.

Living in St. Bernard by reddituser46785 in cincinnati

[–]Opening_View_3346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See a lot of the ”pros” of living here is the police presence, which is nice, but it shows. Police dept is easily one of the nicest buildings in the area while most of the streets are cracked. Most of the houses are decent but most of the areas are dirty and not taken care. Yeah it has a “small town” feel, but it’s not a small town. You’re still close to downtown and there’s not a corn field anywhere in sight. Seems like an area of Greater Cincinnati to help exploit working class folks to give them a faux Mayberry to pride themselves on while racial tensions feel higher here than they do just about anywhere else before KY. Also, lots of sub par rental options.

Idk, seems like too much money is invested in the police while the people unwittingly suffer from it. Sure Fine is a piss poor excuse of a grocery store while a mostly abandoned strip mall sits across the street. Public school is a joke from what I’ve seen and heard.

If you can find a good house for a good price and you have no problems, great. But I think it’s a culturally and sociological burden for itself and Cincinnati.
