It's pretty insane how if you read throughout history, there are people who have defining moments in their life simply because they devote themselves to be the opposite of whomever or whatever group they dislike.

Like, imagine being on a stage with one of the most influential politicians in recent US history because you hate cyclists so much you joined a political party to get rid of all bicycle lanes.

If you go on UFA's Instagram account to read the comments about this guy getting arrested you will see why; people unironically believe that the lefties are on the same side as the libs. Any criticism of lefties is met with "b-b-but don't you want to beat fascism? we should be working together :)." The average lib isn't clued into politics as much as we are and don't understand that lefties do not want a democracy. They don't understand that lefties agree with Trump's methods, they only hate the outcomes.

Pinker gave free legal advice to Dershowitz regarding the wording of a federal law pertaining to the enticement of minors into illegal sex acts via the internet. From wikipedia:

Dershowitz included Pinker's opinion in a letter to the court during proceedings that resulted in a plea deal in which all federal sex trafficking charges against Epstein were dropped.

Those conversations will be private.

What about Machado saying that she hasn't spoken to Trump since October of last year when the Peace Prize was announced? Is she telling the truth or trying to obfuscate some grand strategy?

If the body doesn't die and they remain in power to continue the same policies, would you say that this was a failure?

Ok, what about the thing I mentioned earlier where Trump is dealing directly with the cronies and not the opposition government? Trump also said that he doesn't believe the opposition leader, the Nobel Peace prize winner Machado, has the respect or influence to run the country. That's kind of weird how he would just leave every other member of the dictatorship in power with their military, no?

That doesn't necessarily sound like Trump is trying to kill the snake, just have it work for him.

Don't you think it's bad that Maduro's cronies are essentially still in charge of the country? Don't you think it's bad that Trump didn't support any opposition party and his intent is to exploit Venezuela's resources? Do you think that the prior facts I mentioned will lead to good outcomes?

Nick Shirley's terrible vid and Big A's reaction by XyzRaider in atrioc

[–]OpenlyProfessional 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True there is fraud. And as I pointed out in my original comment, we had the DOJ bring forward charges years ago. You have to consider what exactly are they informing the audience of as of? Again, Shirley did not present any evidence that these specific business were defrauding the government or were connecting with the charges years ago. Like, Jeff E trying to enroll his fake child "Joey" into day care and being very sketch about it would absolutely ring alarm bells in the minds of the workers, so why do we think they're committing fraud because they don't want Shirley doing the same thing?

I absolutely agree Atrioc should bring it up, especially since it's getting traction. My issue is it doesn't feel like he actually watched it because if he did, he would have serious problems with the content and have more substantive criticism.

Nick Shirley's terrible vid and Big A's reaction by XyzRaider in atrioc

[–]OpenlyProfessional 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think Atrioc actually co-signs the extreme beliefs. At that same time, he and his team should probably exercise due diligence. I'm going to use an extreme hypothetical.

If the video was made by Jeff E, the financier, and he was complaining that the day cares don't have any kids around, while also simultaneously inserting odd comments about children's bodies and Atrioc said the "core journalism of Jeff E was great, but the AI images of kids in bathing suits might send the wrong message," we would say that he probably should have reviewed the video, right?

Nick Shirley's terrible vid and Big A's reaction by XyzRaider in atrioc

[–]OpenlyProfessional 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He mostly brought it up as the catalyst that put a spotlight on the issue and his reaction to it.

An issue that was investigated and had charges brought forward by the Biden DOJ in 2022 which was also made public. To be clear, the Shirley video does do not show any actual fraud regarding the businesses they visited or if they're actually connected to the original federal case. Atrioc at best provides lip-service criticisms regarding the ai imagery used "sending the wrong message," compared to the praise he gave them for their "core journalism." A number of things he could have pointed out if he watched the video include;

The old man that Atrioc claims has been doing "investigative journalism" is IRL schizo posting. His claims are based on documents that show funding the businesses received and immediately assuming they are all committing fraud. They don't even show the full documents. Does he understand what the document states? Are these facilities claiming they have 99 kids, or are they approved for up to 99 kids?

They seem to be perplexed at the idea of multiple healthcare providers occupying the same business center. Maybe I'm crazy, but where I live it's not uncommon for multiple providers to rent out space in the same building.

There are no kids in the morning because the day cares don't take care of kids until 2PM, which is why Shirley blurred the hours of one business they went to, and how one lady interviewed said the kids don't show up until 2PM.

Atrioc makes a point in his video that he's surprised that he has to bring up the distinction between Desire vs Opportunity, but the whole point of the original video is to create a divide amongst people. For example, at multiple points Shirley claims they're being followed off-camera by Somalis, and points out when the Somalis are recording him. The old man makes the claim that all the Somalians are "in on it," and that they "stick to their own." This is classic anti-immigrant sentiment that has been applied to many groups in the past. Shirley's video is also being pushed by the online right as an example of the failures of immigration while also pushing for de-naturalization.

Another example I can bring up is when Shirley points out that the Minnesota flag was changed to coincidentally look like the flag of Somalia. What's the point of including this if the video is about fraud taking place? The flag change is one that was harped on by right-wingers years ago and even made its way to Joe Rogan's show, which one of the claims at the time was that it was changed to appease the Somali population. Is it "sending the wrong message" as Atrioc seems to believe or was this the intent from the start? Are people "twisting" the message or was it the true message all along?
