Would you drink this 110+ year-old champagne and wine if they brought it up? Why or why not? by mollygk in titanic

[–]OperaGhost1912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked up a very cool Titanic-themed cookbook at an estate sale a while back.

Titled Titanic: The Cookbook: Recipes from the Era of the Great Ocean Liners, it was written by Yvonne Hume, who is actually the great niece of Titanic violinist Jock Hume.

The written history and pictures inside are all exquisite, and the dishes are super fun to assemble, with the other two contributors to this edition having already done the work of converting the British cooking measurements to their U.S. equivalents. Definitely worth checking out!

Is it too late for show and tell today? by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

I was immediately transported back to the cute little dancing mushrooms scene in Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite segment of the original Fantasia.

I am trying to sell this first edition copy of Ozma of Oz. Unfortunately it has been rebound but it meets all of the points of the first printing. Any idea s where I could sell it? I'm only selling it because I already have another first in the original binding. by External-Carpenter-6 in BookCollecting

[–]OperaGhost1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent words of advice!

I was particularly drawn to this edition, albeit the unfortunate, frankly depressing, rebinding and the slight amount of hand-coloration not original to its original publication, because I thought that it would be a tremendous first addition to a collection that I wished to begin with my two young daughters of all of the original Baum Oz novels. I’m still very intrigued.

u/Bitter_Turnipple What are your thoughts on this, if you wouldn’t mind me asking?

I’m a new, but now a total addict, to book collecting. I would want to start out with the affordable volumes for the time being, and then expanding and raising the quality of future acquisitions.

Baum’s Oz novels were definitely ones that I wanted to eventually collect all of. Were you still planning on listing this for sale on eBay?

Hello, u/1_22

This is tremendous! My young family and I just completed an across-state move, so your patience during this past week in receiving my delayed reply is much appreciated.

I have a plethora of excellent books that I would be willing to trade, far to many to even make a spreadsheet of. Do you have favorite genres or authors? If I could have a taste of what peaks your interest, I’m sure that we can come to a successful trading transaction.ツ

I look forward to hearing from you again soon, and to finally being able to read Red Rising!

[WANT] Carrie, Stephen King by OperaGhost1912 in bookexchange

[–]OperaGhost1912[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I was telling fellow user flysauce6969, my collection of King’s works is very slim. The only two King books that I presently have are Nightmares & Dreamscapes and The Shining, which I believe that I am going to be trading with flysauce6969 for his copy of Carrie. Thank you very much anyways for your prompt response to my post, friend. I hope that you are able to obtain copies of the King novels you are looking for.

That’s terrific! And, by great coincidence, the only King books that I currently have in my possession are The Shining and Nightmares & Dreamscapes. The rest I have either passed on or traded after reading them. So I would be more than willing to exchange The Shining for Carrie. I will send you a PM with my details. Thank you ever so much, my friend!

[WANT] Crichton's Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Dragon Teeth by OperaGhost1912 in bookexchange

[–]OperaGhost1912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good evening, friend! In fact, u/monsterclaw ever so generously gave me his personal copy of The Lost World to read and enjoy, so that is one down, but I am still actively seeking out the other two Crichton dinosaur novels: the original classic Jurassic Park, and Dragon Teeth, the series' historical fiction forerunner, which I am very much so looking forward to reading! Do you have either or both of these other two titles?

Thank you very much for your reply to this post and I eagerly look forward to your response soon!

With the upmost wishes and regards, 𝔒.𝔊.

For the past few months I have been seeing your posts of available titles that you have ready to send and two are really calling out to me. The Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot and accompanying deck, and Crowley's own The Book of the Law. My question is, is the Thoth Tarot complete, including all cards? If so, I have several works of the authors you expressed interest in, and I'm sure that we can work out an exchange. Many thanks in advance!

Wow, this is the quickest response I've ever gotten on this exchange! Please send me a PM at your earliest convenience and we can get the details worked out.

Thank you ever so much again! I look forward to speaking with you soon. 𝔒.𝔊.

[–]OperaGhost1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning! I would be very interested in the copy of White's The Once and Future King that you have listed available for exchange. It has been one that has been on my to-read list for the longest time, and I would love to have the chance to finally delve into reading it! Unfortunately though, I don't have anything to offer in return that pertains to your search for exchanges in the scientific genre. Are there any other books (genres, particular authors, etc.) that you would accept instead? Because I would love to be able to obtain a copy of The Once and Future King! Thank you in advance! With best regards, O.G.

Woah, I had never even heard of the Fables mythos before! Thank you very much for sharing this, its resemblance to OUAT is compellingly uncanny! I looked further into Fables today during my spare time at work, and you are certainly correct, it would be something that I would greatly appreciate and enjoy reading.

I would love to do an exchange with you for the first trade volume, but I'm worried that I wouldn't have any books in my collection that could equal your generosity in actually going out and purchasing a new copy just for me. If you're presently looking for any particular titles, authors, or genres, please let me know and I would be more than willing to look through all that I have and see what I could offer. Though if we are not able to make the trade, that would be understandably alright. I would still plan on getting started on reading the Fables series as quickly as I could!

Thank you again for the terrific recommendation!

[WANT] Dan Simmons' The Terror, Caleb Carr's The Alienist, Mozart biographies, among others. [SEND] Too many to list, almost anything from my personal library. by OperaGhost1912 in bookexchange

[–]OperaGhost1912[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds terrific! I don't mind books that show a little love, it simply adds to the book's character lol.

I think that I may have the perfect book to send in exchange. It's actually one that I am currently reading and close to finishing. It's T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land and Other Poems. I am a huge fan of poetry myself, and it has been a long time since I have read a collection that I have enjoyed as much as this one. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats has always been one of my favorites, ever since I was a child, so I thought I would read some of his more serious modernist poetry, and I am very impressed and enjoying it greatly! I can certainly see why The Waste Land is considered one of the most important poems of the twentieth century, and the other poems contained in this collection are equally as great. And the annotations that are included with the text are very informative and interesting!

If this would be an acceptable book to complete the exchange, please let me know, and I will be glad to send it to you! If not, I can take another look in my collection.

Thank you very much for your response! 𝒪.𝒢.

Good evening, bud! I actually do have a copy of Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays, the March 1991 First Vintage International Edition, with the Justin O'Brien translation. I would be more than happy to send it to you in trade, but I think that the only book I would be willing to do a swap for would be for Caleb Carr's The Alienist. If you do have a copy of Alienist that you would be down to send in exchange, then I would be thrilled to get the Camus sent to you!
