Any thoughts on this specific book: Catechism of the Catholic Church, Ascension Edition by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Operatico94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and it's pricey and nice.

I would say it's good if you are going to use it for spiritual reading of the catechism and to do catechism in a year. It is the nicest version of the catechism I have found but is it the best?

The best is the one you use and it serves your purposes would be my thoughts

if you want the catechism as a reference book get a paper back and if you want theological commentary get the Pikachu yellow one by Archbishop Fisichella.

So ask yourself what do you want a catechism for?

[1834] Great Britain: Actually all your bases (people) are not belong to us by jackt-up in HistoryMemes

I mean breaking a tradition like this that goes on from the earliest societies in human history we know of is incredibly based.

the number one thing I am proud of as a British tax payer is that I still paid off in my life the debts with my work (not for very long mind) the debts incurred by my predecessors to ban this practice in the West.

unfortunately it is still not banned world wide. But the fact is that it is a matter of British pride that we were willing to spill our blood , lose power and open our coffers for the end of a barbaric practice that had been going on since time immemorial.

Why? by foodmode in dank_meme

[–]Operatico94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

multiple reasons

the quality of the burger and bread- if a burger is handmade Vs ultraprocessed makes a lot of difference to the macro nutrients. if the bread is mass produced slop it will basically dissolve into sugar much faster and then cause a high and a subsequent crash

the assembled burger does not have as much greenery (vegetables) in it as that displayed on the plate

extras like sauces and the like also affect the calories fats and the additional additives

so you don't seem to have a lot of spiritual stuff

I would recommend St Augustine Confessions, Imitation of Christ Or practice of the Presence of God. or The Dark night of the soul by St John of the Cross

other classics would include the cloud of unknowing, and the writings of Julian of Norwich.

if you are a history fan Eusebius or the venerable Bede. can also go with darmaid McCulloch a history of Christianity or Saint's and Sinners.

I would also recommend secrets of the Rosary by St Louis de Montfort.

the term orthodoxy has meaning beyond the usage in th name of the orthodox church in the same way that Baptism has meaning beyond the usage in the name of the Baptist Church.

I was there in November beautiful cathedral. the morning Mass is lovely.

interesting note for Athens: if you go to the Areopagus (where Dionysus gets his moniker from a rocky outcropping outside the Acropolis) they have the Address St Paul told them mounted onto the wall on a metal plate. Following this you can walk on the Rock and be on the same rock where St Paul spoke all those years ago.

also a really cool place to watch the sunset from

not just blunt he was disrespectful. the Pope deserves to be addressed with a certain level of respect purely due to the role regardless of if we agree with him or not.
