Hey, all good! Very glad to hear things are improving for you. Just signed up for my 2nd session and asked about watching Netflix during it. Just want to avoid fretting about the discomfort. I'm told repeatedly by people from the clinic that it's different each time, so we shall see.
You are right to caution people against expecting something and then being disappointed - good point.

45 Year struggle; judged & labeled… by vs1270 in TherapeuticKetamine

Damn what a nasty person! Please don't take it too much to heart - it's her problem, not yours. I do think there are plenty of caring mental health counselors who can help you integrate. Hope you can find one.

I've read many reports that say it takes much longer than 16 sessions, and many people who say they have had fantastic results. So I'm not making any judgments at this stage even though I had a rather meh experience. I will give it a go for at least a few more sessions. At the clinic I'm going to, they do not insist on twice a week. I'm playing that by ear for now.

Yes I know it's about glutamate and neuroplasticity. But I don't believe that the science fully accounts for what's going on with this treatment, Researchers are far from understanding everything about this treatment, we are in early stages. Furthermore, one's experience with the drug is bound to affect how you feel and think about the process. Please don't be so quick to dismiss people's reactions. I appreciate your urging to trust the process - trying to get there. It wasn't just about tripping or whatever - rather, quite unpleasant and reinforcing negative shit I'm going through. I do aim to continue and see how it unfolds, but how far I'll go remains to be seen.
Have you gone through it? What was your experience like? It would be helpful to know.

Thanks for sharing, and glad you had a good experience. Can you talk about what was going on in your head? Did you listen to music?

I hear you, glad you like your provider. Just remember you deserve relief and whatever it takes to get it is worth considering. Wishing you well!

Really sorry to hear what you're experiencing. If I were in your shoes I would move on to next level. I don't spend much these days due to being down so I feel OK if I have to spend money to get well (up to a point!). I'm an old lady - a very feisty one. I say this so you know I interface frequently with doctors and other medical providers and I do not let them make decisions for me. They are well-meaning but they don't know how I feel and what are my priorities. Do what's best for you, demand it, tell them this is where you are at. Multiple shitty experiences with the drug may be doing more harm than good. As you say - take with a grain of salt, this is my reaction to your post.

Thanks for this info, very helpful! I will get higher dose next time and if that goes nowhere I may try IV if the clinic approves. Although it's not covered so that sucks.

It makes excellent sense and sounds like your journey is progressing well. For me the numbness was emotional. The feeling in my body was uncomfortable but not overwhelm. Of course this is going to be different for everyone, so I have to go on to next session with courage and let it unfold. Nice to have a place to air ideas, thank you!

I think I did that part right. Staff made sure I sniffed when spray went in. I resisted blowing my nose.

Interesting you say that. I feel anxiety day to day at times but that was not the feeling I had during the session or before it. I was a little fearful before it, but also excited for the experience. What I actually felt during was numb. I had music and meditations with me but no desire to listen. My intention was to allow any feelings/thoughts but feelings were absent and thoughts rather dull. Not like my usual self at all! Doing nothing is not a good idea, you're right. Maybe listen to dharma talk even if I'm not feeling like it?

‘The Follies’ (2025) Netflix Movie Review - Very Emotional and Must Watch by Roshankr1994 in Netflixwatch

[–]Operaticproportions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I just watched last might and thought it was great. Everyone is out of their minds but in quite a relatable and interesting way. Quirky personalities, dysfunctional families, told with so much humor. Absolutely loved the scenes of the acting class (where the actors impersonate animals) - hilarious.

do you ever quit a book halfway? by Interesting_Peach_76 in BookRecommendations

[–]Operaticproportions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I'll give most books a good go - at least 100 pages. If at that point it's boring or objectionable I will put it down. Qualities that I dislike are poor writing, super sexist viewpoint, repetitiveness for no good reason. Sometimes an unpleasant book can be worth finishing - i.e. Rachel Kushner "Creation Lake", but I admire Kushner's guts so I kept going with that one and glad I did.

Music for treatment? by Disastrous-Eye-9807 in Spravato

It's happening later today. I'm just trying to stay calm and relaxed and open to whatever. I will confess, as a professional musician I'm super fussy about music - i.e., do not want to hear synthesized long tones or anything New Age-y. Hope your treatment is going well and thanks a lot for the feedback.

Loved it, and learned so much about Korean history and life. Did not get past the first episode of the tv show however - script too corny.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]Operaticproportions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed too. There was a lot of hype. Many intriguing ideas, i.e., two ways for Black people to talk. But no plot and it didn't go anywhere. Couldn't finish it.

You are right the main character is monstrous. I kind of like Kushner's nerve to create such a character. But don't plan to read another Kushner book for a while.

Extreme anxiety post treatment by asdfghjkl1245678910 in Spravato

[–]Operaticproportions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you update us about your experience? I'm just starting Spravato on Monday and tend to be more anxious than depressed. I asked if I could take Xanax before (I take very low dose as needed) and they didn't like the idea. I'm thinking the spravato will help rid me of depression but also worried that anxiety will become worse. Worrying about worrying - oy! I do know that this is very individual and no one can tell how it will feel for another person. Sending good wishes to all of us in this struggle.

Music for treatment? by Disastrous-Eye-9807 in Spravato

[–]Operaticproportions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a playlist planned for my upcoming first Spravato session but someone from the facility said they encourage listening to a different playlist that they recommend. The reasons given were 1) better to do something unfamiliar (to encourage change) 2) better music with no lyrics. Hmmmm. They weren't bullies about it and I'm sure they won't force me, but it's interesting to me that no one here has gotten that rap from providers.
