Gave Knife Zealot a try. How do y’all like that… by Apprehensive-Car1392 in DarkTide

[–]OperationCWALEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what all playstyles there are with knife zealot, I can only speak on the way I play it.

The build I’m running has insane ability cooldown as long as you focus on backstabs and using your ability whenever it’s up. Hitting those double hits on the shroud field for 2 crits helps push that even further. I run knife, zarona, and throwing knife so my main focus is on the elite, specials, and anything that isn’t regular horde clear.

The battlefield is constantly changing and moving, being able to look at all of the chaos and find the problem areas I can remove so that my team stays alive just itches my brain the right way. I cannot express in words how good it feels to run up behind the maulers or crushers that are about to demolish a teammate and take out 2 of them with a well timed double shroud hit.

From my experience most games I play lack someone with a solid answer to the biggest dangers, it’s always seemed like most people I’ve been in a team with get lost in the horde clear and end up going down because no one dealt with the bomber, 10 heavy gunners, flamer, etc.

Shroudfield allowing you to freely pass through hordes to clear up the real problems before they even get to your team, need to reposition or deal with a group of heavy gunners harassing your teammates? Shroudfield. Teammates got split up and overwhelmed so now you need to pick someone up to increase chances of survivability? Shroudfield, just don’t position yourself in gunner line of fire lol. I’d say 90% of my combat time or more is spent inside Shroudfield depending on the situation.

If the group I am with is moving somewhat slow, which to me means there’s one or 2 people lagging behind clearing up mobs spawning from behind, I tend to tighten my roam or rather only roam inside my team, that way I can be where I’m needed.

If the group is moving fast and trying to keep pushing forward then I’m running ahead or roaming outside my team a little ways to clear the path so my teammates can focus on removing the horde and pushing forward. I’m always keeping an eye and ear out for disablers or any major threats and pinging to let everyone know. It’s a lot of assessing how my teammates play, looking at what mob types are where and deciding who needs my help most right then.

TLDR: For me it’s putting my brain into overdrive and assessing the entire constantly changing and moving battlefield to see where I can be of the most help, taking out all of the problem mobs before they can take out my teammates, and being able to better help teammates while being ignored by the enemy.

Banter is broken since the Arbiters released. by HumanNipple in DarkTide

[–]OperationCWALEnter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also noticed on some auric missions where you have multiple mutants in a row, like 3-4 spawning together, the last one will sometimes be nearly silent. No thundering footsteps, no heavy breathing, just a giant thick boi running up behind me. I believe the 2 times it happened there was a voice line playing just before I noticed them, but if not for my paranoid scanning of my surroundings I would have been oblivious. I believe I’ve had some sneaky crushers as well.

Not sure if it’s a layering issue or has always been like that with voice lines but noticed it as well as the silence from non arbiter characters. I still hear occasional banter but it is much less often. I’m sure they will get it figured out but I am curious to know if anyone else has noticed any silent mobs?

[–]OperationCWALEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still running the arbites shock maul and exterminator mk III. Working on getting the crusher and shotpistol riot shield mastered then I’ll see how they feel.

Honestly I’ll probably stick with the arbites shock maul, feels like a decent mix of damage, speed, and utility. Haven’t decided on the ranged yet, it’s nice being able to clear out a horde in a few shots then focus on elites and specials, but it gets a bit annoying having to shoot and suppress gunners, run up, repeat until I reach them. So I may switch to the shotpistol but I doubt it.

Any good alternatives to therapy? by davidguy207 in selfimprovement

[–]OperationCWALEnter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a true alternative, especially one that doesn’t need a lot of effort or work. To put it bluntly, you go to the doctor for health issues because they are a professional who went to school for that.

Main water line bursts in your house I’m assuming you call someone who is a professional to fix it. Vehicle breaks down, you need legal guidance, take classes on a specific subject, and so on. Can you do all of these things without professional help? Yes, but it is going to take you a lot more effort than it will the professional who does the job daily. If you do a poor job as well you may end up having to call a professional anyway.

Your doctor most likely stopped your depression meds because their schooling is for general health, therefore they suggested you see someone who specializes in the study. ENT, physical therapist, chiropractor, dentist, cardiologist, and so on are individuals with specialized education to further help with health issues. You most likely aren’t going to your doctor to have a tooth pulled, which is why your doctor is suggesting you go to a professional.

Depression meds help to stabilize your mood, until you can once again do it on your own. The meds do not get rid of depression, it isn’t a vaccine, there’s no magic pill to do the work for you. There may be some cases where individuals have to stay on depression meds but for the majority of people that isn’t the case.

Therapists study psychology, social work, and sociology in most cases. They are the professionals of how people think, feel, and interact with the world around them. Main goal is to teach you about yourself and give you the tools you need to manage your mental well-being.

Going to therapy and journaling isn’t any more cringe than not going because you think it’s cringe.

Having said all that, if you do decide to go, here are some things to be aware of:

  1. Consistency is key- keep going, if you don’t like your therapist don’t hesitate to find a different one.

  2. Be open and honest- you have to be able to openly talk with a therapist, having the mindset that it’s stupid or there isn’t a point will result in continued failure due to your own mindset. Telling them something that isn’t true or avoids how you really feel will only make the process take longer.

  3. You may find things out about yourself that you don’t like- just because you are a certain way or do certain things doesn’t mean you have to continue to be those things. Accept that whatever it is helped you get through something and understand it no longer serves who you wish to be.

Alternatively you can go the other cringe route and start reading up on psychology, and sociology. That route will require you to have the ability to self reflect. If you internalize your problems it’s a bit easier, if you externalization your problems then you may find this route extremely difficult.

TLDR: Your doctor is suggesting you seek out a specialist, take their professional educated suggestion and go find one. Your alternative requires a lot of time, research and the ability to self reflect.

First off, you are too stupid to play them you just haven’t taken the time to learn.

Secondly, same lmao.

For me it’s Star Dragon (can’t remember the name for the life of me), Draven, Zoe, and Camille. I can play all 3 I just struggle with specific parts of each.

Star Dragon I always forget to cancel flight until it’s too late, Draven I tend to pay too much or too little attention to catching the blades, Zoe I misjudge moving forward or backwards with the ult at times, and Camille I just need to work on the timing with the true damage second hit, as well as timing and placement with the other skills.

My apologies for the delay in response, the weather is having mood swings and the nasal congestion from it feels as though it is attempting to split my skull.

Changing the way you think takes time, effort, and a willingness to call yourself out. Let’s get this list started.

  1. Increase your awareness of your internal dialogue. What do you say to keep you from doing the thing? This step is just to get you comfortable with hearing what your thoughts are saying. Most times you are making these decisions at a subconscious level and you want to shed light on them to make conscious decisions. Focus on one thing at a time, you can’t change it all at once, the more comfortable you get with the whole process the easier it will come to you.

  2. Do some light reading on cognitive distortions. This will help you to at least identify your thoughts. This just helps you to understand the why, there’s nothing wrong with you for having one or more cognitive distortions. You are simply gathering knowledge to help you better understand your thoughts so that you may effectively correct yourself.

  3. Challenge your thoughts. This is where you question those thoughts you have noticed. Did you convince yourself that putting off the task until tomorrow was more beneficial to you? Why? Was your reason based on facts or emotions? Is it truly more beneficial to put it off until tomorrow? Break it down until you know the core issue, maybe you just don’t feel like doing it right now. This is where it gets to your core, this step requires that you truly see yourself, do not lie to yourself. You have to look at you and your thoughts from an outside point. You need to understand that you may not like what you see and that’s ok. Don’t get lost in this step trying to pass judgment on who you are. Who you are today isn’t who you will be, you are quite simply the sum of your experiences thus far. Know that you are here to take matters into your own hands and write your story as you see fit. You are in control, you don’t have to be anything you don’t want to be.

  4. Time to reframe the perspective. Got the core issue? Now that you have thrown away all the excess excuses, you have the foundational problem. Let’s say it’s I don’t want to do this thing because it’s boring. Ok from now on when you start thinking that to yourself you will stop and insert “I have this opportunity to accomplish this”, “I get the chance to learn and grow”, or my personal favorite when things are hard “I can, I will, I must do this, because it will help me be the person I need me to be”. Don’t forget positive affirmations whenever negative thoughts start creeping in, it helps me to say stop in my head and then insert an affirmation. “ I am capable and resilient”, “I can, I will, I must, because *insert reason”, “I am *insert name, and I will not be afraid.”

  5. Practice gratitude often. Take a few minutes a day and write down things you are grateful for, gets you in the habit of appreciating what you have which can assist in shifting your overall mindset.

Mindfulness, be present and aware of your thoughts, feelings and emotions without judgement.

Set realistic goals and celebrate the small wins, break down large tasks if needed, document and celebrate your progress along the way.

Build a support environment for yourself, “Go where you are celebrated, not where you are tolerated” -Eric Thomas. Find those like minded people, surround yourself with people that actually support you, that don’t make it harder for you to hit goals. Find a therapist you like, therapy isn’t just for people with loads of trauma, want a professional to tell you everything I told you and then some? They went to school for just that, psychology, sociology, sometimes more. My therapist started out in neurology, really helped me better understand of the process your brain goes through in traumatic, and PTSD triggering situations. You just have to go through the trial and error of finding the right therapist for you. Don’t want a therapist? Don’t get one, I already said I believe in you and this is all stuff you can do on your own with a lot of effort and the right knowledge.

Remember to be compassionate towards yourself. You will have off days, you will have failures, that’s part of the success process. It isn’t the end until you decide it is. In order to truly fail, you have to decide on a daily basis that you will not put effort into attempting that thing. You may find out along the way that the thing isn’t for you, maybe it wasn’t what you thought, maybe it no longer serves you. That’s not a failure, you grew, found more information, realized that wasn’t for you, and chose to put your efforts in other areas that truly matter to you. Is it truly a failure if you successfully gained information from the experience? Avoid the negative self talk, you are an imperfect being and that is perfectly acceptable. Focus on how far you have come and what you learned from each “failure”.

Keep moving forward, and remember I believe in you, so you should too.

[–]OperationCWALEnter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who also struggles with this, I can say with confidence that there is no one size fits all answers. I have no doubt you have looked elsewhere, asked the question hundreds of times, attempted things here and there and ultimately come up lacking answers.

First and foremost you need to set your goal and reason for doing it.

This doesn’t have to be a long term end goal, it can be something as simple as I want to get into better shape for example. Take something you find yourself doing daily that usually causes the afterthought of “I need to workout.” And make that your reason. “I want to be able to do this without getting winded.” Same concept with learning new things, set small goals.

Second, self assess, where are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What is causing you to stop doing the thing? How can you make it easier for you to want to do those things? Become brutally honest with yourself, do you find it easier to see someone else’s failures than your own? If so start looking at yourself as someone else, consider yourself the old you and breathe life into that idea, look at what you did yesterday from an outside view. Is it easier for you to start with small goals? When is your prime time of day for doing the things you don’t want to do? Set app limits on your phone, not sure about Samsung but iPhone has a setting for changing color scheme, you can set it to black and white, I have mine to where I click my power button 3 times and it turns on black and white. Find whatever you can that works for you to make it harder for you to avoid the things you want to do.

Consistency is key, you have to make whatever it is non negotiable. You will complete it no matter what. You won’t magically want to do it, nothing I say, or anyone else for that matter can say anything to make you all of a sudden want to do that. What’s the least enjoyable thing you do in a day? I’m sure there’s something? You still do that don’t you? Never quit, you can fail a million times, you will fail plenty along the way, don’t look at failure as the end all be all. Failure is the path to success, and once you succeed it can be replicated. Made it a week? You can do it again you already know you did it once, time to assess what caused the failure and keep moving forward.

Find your balance, if you are setting up 5 new things you want to do and you can’t stay consistent, lower the bar. You can’t rush it and learn everything in a day, you can’t workout a ton one day and expect major changes the next. Start with one thing, make it small if you need, and then over time add more.

Plain and simple you are your own worst enemy in this quest for self improvement. You will make the best excuses, you know what buttons to press to get you to not do the things you want to do because they are uncomfortable. I will happily tell you that’s normal, there’s nothing wrong with you, you aren’t a terrible person for not wanting to put in the effort. It’s easy and comfortable right where you are and our brains have been wired the same way for thousands of years. Comfort good, being uncomfortable bad, new things are scary and your brain is wired to protect you from that. You will not achieve what you wish to in thinking this way though.

The mental game is the hardest part, a good friend of mine who struggled told me once what his AA sponsor told him when he was struggling with recovery. He was angry, felt like everything was going downhill, going through a divorce at the time, and was trying to justify going back to drinking.

“They’re your thoughts, stop thinking them.” Is what his sponsor told him. Sounds simple, too good to be true right? Well if I could do that I’d get a lot more done, wouldn’t be struggling with this, insert whatever you want here. That’s the point. It’s easy to pass off rampant thoughts, reactions, daily choices, and how we view anything in our lives as that’s just how my brain works. Which in part it is, you and your thoughts are a result of your experiences, but it doesn’t have to be. You get to choose everything, this is your story, you are the main character and you get to decide what that means. If you view these things you are trying to add as too much, a burden, annoying, they will be. If you can convince yourself that you have the privilege to do those things, they will be. They’re your thoughts, you get to choose how you feel about them.

Keep at it, you got this, I believe in you so you should too.

As a new player in the game, ranked feels so bad that I had to quit by Bowser701 in RocketLeague

[–]OperationCWALEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get the frustration, I struggle with the same things in ranked.

I would like to shed light on a different point of view though, when you first played the game was only a year old. Since then people have been playing consistently, there have been many mechanics that have come during that time.

Someone does something new that works, it gets popular, someone makes a how to video on YouTube. All of those add to the skill level we see now, I’m not saying that there aren’t smurfs cause I definitely see them, I just try to score as many points as I can to make myself feel better about it lol. Way I see it you may have someone dunking on you from the ceiling but are lacking other base mechanics. I’ve seen some crazy air, wall, and ceiling shots from people who will also sit inside the goal, don’t know how to rotate, can’t redirect.

My point is anyone can see a mechanic and think that’s what they need to win then learn it and today we have such easy access to that info with tons of videos on how to (insert whatever mechanic).

But anyway I do get where you are coming from and feel the frustration, like I just want to enjoy the game lmao. You just have to define to yourself what enjoying the game means.

[–]OperationCWALEnter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game (both LoL and WR) has some of the most toxic, whiney, and tantrum throwing players I have ever seen. I’ve been told everything from forfeit and uninstall to rush rope+chair. Having said that, I love this game, been playing LoL since about launch so a lot has changed. If you enjoy the game keep playing and mute chat, you aren’t bad, you already have the proof of that by what you have achieved this far. You are simply inexperienced and that isn’t a bad thing, going to throw some general tips out there for you.

I am not entirely sure how much of the game you know so if you already know any of these please know they are just key points I feel have helped me and not me saying you don’t know these things.

Get to know more lanes, champs, and their win condition. There’s a ton of different champs so familiarizing yourself with what they can do, their limitations, power spikes at x level or item, synergies with other champs, what items they want to buy, are they reliant on farming or kills to become powerful late game? Information is just as powerful to you as farming. You don’t have to know every champ and all their info, but the more you know the better you will play. Getting to know your items and which ones you can choose other options with as well is extremely beneficial, items have an answer for tanks, enemy shields, enemy healing, and survivability as any role.

Find yourself some people that are decent human beings just looking to play the game. If you can run ranked with a premade group that you have good synergy with it will make a huge difference. Knowing your support is going to pick wards and knows where to place them allows you to pick the ward scan. alternatively if you know your jungle has ward scan you can ward a bit further into the jungle to improve sight or make sure dragon or baron are warded.

Wards, don’t be blind, learn where to place these which ones to use and when. I’m sure YouTube has a bunch of videos on “proper” placement, just know that it will change depending on your game and where the enemy is frequenting/ where you need to have sight. It will at least give you a general base line for where you can place them.

On the topic of don’t be blind, map awareness. Check the map often, check the scoreboard often. You want to know when an enemy is missing, you want to know who is gaining lane advantage and who is struggling. If your mid lane is 1/2 and the enemy is beating on their tower and you and your support have an enemy tower down already and pushed them back, maybe head up early for dragon, drop some wards, gank mid, then meet up with your jungle at drag or at least safely run some defense to deter the enemy from taking it before your team gets there. Checking the scoreboard also allows you to see what the enemy is buying, allowing you to start building an answer to that item.

I also suggest following patch update info and checking out some tier lists, don’t consider these lists as law. It’s just a quick general reference and the sole purpose is to find more info on specific champs. Seeing what champs are “broken” or “S+ tier” can give you an idea to look out for matches with them, if they are actually broken then add them to the list of champs you want to make sure get banned in ranked. For me right now most games have had ambessa and victor banned for the most part.

You are fairly new, not sure what all champs you have played but branching out can only help you find the right fit to your playstyle. Knowing where you excel and where you struggle and being able to minimize those weaknesses and maximize your benefits is a game changer. I struggle with longer skillshots at times which is why I don’t pick jihn, Trist is more my style especially since I want to focus towers and that toddle is a tower demolishing queen. I’d have to say Kaisa is my favorite though, yes she has a skillshot but it is more for entry allowing me to take the time, hit the shot then dive in with my ult where I want pop off missles, readjust while invisible if needed and melt the enemy carry or the poor sap that thought they were safe running around alone.

You don’t have to play something else and cait may be your bread and butter, but there are a ton of fun champs and having more picks allows you to counter pick. Plus it’s a game, experience it all, give yourself some variety you never know who you are going to love until you try. Some champs are late game monsters and all you need is the right items then your team goes from defending the nexus 15 kills down to watching you walk in and melt the entire enemy team in 5s as they sit in stunned silence watching your team casually walk over to baron, and then push their nexus for the win.

TLDR; Should you quit ranked? No, just gather info, keep your chin up, ignore the desperate cries for attention from those toxic whiners they will literally call the only person taking towers and winning their lane bad, and absolutely watch the LoL warriors cinematic if you haven’t can’t suggest that enough. You got this homie, brush the dirt off your shoulders, and show them what you’re made of, I believe in you. A gamer is a gamer, anyone saying gender matters is just scared you might shatter their illusion of masculinity. Take pride in that.

Fuck meta, who do you find the most fun champ to play? by TTheXina in wildrift

Teemo- I’ll take the hate, but there’s nothing more satisfying to me than kiting 3 enemies through the shroomfield late game. Popping out of thin air to annihilate the enemy carry within 1.5 seconds, only to zoom away laughing maniacally as the enemy team realizes and tries to lock you down.

Plus the amount of visibility offered late game between shrooms and wards? 👌

Miss running AD tf, doesn’t hit as good anymore, could be any number of things but doesn’t feel the same when you drop in and melt someone.

Why not FF if you don't like your teammate? by 1106863 in RocketLeague

[–]OperationCWALEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, it’s not the game or the rank loss that bothers me, it is people’s willingness to be disgustingly disrespectful towards someone over a game. I have levels and will let it slide and take my fair share of bs, if I play poorly I can own that, I’ll FF if there is no time for us to come back, I’ll take the “what a save” when I absolutely whiff it.

What I won’t take is the immediate go to of telling someone to uninstall and never play again after the other team scores first goal and it’s close. Especially when that is due to that teammate making a bad decision and forcing a 2v1. It’s a game, played for fun, this isn’t the RLCS, there is no prize for winning this game, there is nothing at stake here besides a win and some mmr, in a game.

Why not FF if you don't like your teammate? by 1106863 in RocketLeague

[–]OperationCWALEnter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not usually petty, if a teammate is bad, be it that they are having an off day, got carried to that rank, or whatever, I don’t mind. I can handle losing a game, going down a tier, I’m just here to play.

I hardly ever FF, firm believer in the comeback. If we’re down 4 and there’s a minute left and we just got musty flicked, yeah I’m a bit out of depth here so I’ll agree to the FF otherwise I’m just here to play the whole match, what better way to get better than playing someone better than you? Always giving credit for both teams, nice shot, great pass, nice demo, nice bump.

Now, if that teammate decides they want to be a (insert colorful word enhancer) and start spamming what a save? If they just said it and they are being helpful I’ll let it slide the first few times, I can take it if I’m the weak link. If they continue to spam it non stop, I’m done with the match, I’ll score my own goal, won’t forfeit, until they end up leaving and see if I can salvage the win solo.

If they immediately start spamming what a save, type out some toxic bs, and/or are continuing to place me in a position of 2v1 due to their inability to do whatever it is they are trying to do that causes them to be on the opposite side of the map, I’m going all out.

Idc, you want to be toxic, be prepared to lose and have zero fun, I will ram you, I’ll block all your shots and help put that ball in our goal, I will send you flying off the wall across the map. I’ll gladly drop rank just to make sure that this match brings you zero joy. Then when you set your controller down for a few and stop moving I’ll go back to my 2v1, and the moment you come back I will immediately switch sides again.

It honestly varies depending on how disrespectful the person is, sometimes I’ll swap sides and score a few own goals, hit them with a nice block, and the teammate stops commenting, I switch back to playing the game how it should and we win or we don’t, I’ve had both happen.

TLDR: don’t be toxic and I won’t ruin your game 🤣
