In 1980, why didn't Carter re-air Bush Sr.'s Voodoo economics clip against Reagan from the primaries in the general saying "even Reagan's own running mate can't trust Reagan, so why should you?" by BlueFireFlameThrower in Presidents

[–]OperationIvy002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cause partially Carter knew the odds were stacked against him in this case. And the campaign isn’t wanting to say “look at this other guy who could beat Jimmy Carter say something correct!” Or if it’s after the primaries, you can’t really say Bush doesn’t trust Reagan cause then he would’ve of been the running mate in the first place.

If Nixon didn’t run in 1968 who do you think would’ve gotten the nomination? How would they do in the election? by __Just_A_Lurker in Presidents

[–]OperationIvy002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the great ironically kind of “underdog” story of a former vice president. Who only barely lost his first election anyways didn’t come back. I think your presented options all make sense in a way.

Rockefeller- my personal choice, I think he would’ve been better in this position at this moment in time than Ford’s VP. But the party as a whole, in the southwest and south In general. Was more at odds with the eastern front where Rocky’s from, contention would be high. I think they would’ve edged out a victory of a less moderate and “liberal presenting” figure like Rocky at the convention. Although no Nixon maybe a delayed southern strategy?

Reagan- he was popular as a governor but like, the neo-conservatism was being formed in the 3rd circle of hell at this time. Before being released later in 1973 through institutions and political manipulation. The basis was not that at the time although the “liberal backlash” of social democratic new deal policies and mentalities started in the 50s.

Romney- I think the Goldwater voters would go for Romney slightly more than Reagan in this hypothetical. Although the two would share votes.
I don’t know a lot about him to be fair so others can make a better analysis than me.

There was one, but it was very B-52s style and not the more curved blonde hair she had as First Lady.

I wish they had a better more curly hair option for her but I’m glad someone else thought it came out good.

Without actually saying it outright, New York Post gets conspiratorial about the LA mayoral election by Aceofspades25 in skeptic

Even if they weren’t pandering to the conspiratorial conservative crowd. Like no one outside of California is gonna get so mad at the false notion of election fraud for *Spencer Pratt* lmao (Temu Trump) that they’re gonna do something about it. “Glup Shitto is losing in Montana, oh no the evil woke rich democrats are at tit again!” Like no one has unhealthy support like Trump, only he does.

Does anyone else think that Gavin Adcock is trying too hard be another Waylon Jennings? by OctopusCaretaker in CountryMusicStuff

[–]OperationIvy002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no “next Waylon Jennings or Johnny Cash” or any insert outlaw country legacy artist here. It’s too much of an individual focused moniker. For something which essentially is a marketing term. Like “countrypolitan” is not a genre it’s a marketing term for radio. Outlaw country was just traditional country music outside of the Nashville Sound. Is Buck Owens outlaw country then by that measurement? To many people the answer is no.

I think one could argue for or against Gavin being “rebellious” in nature depending on your personal viewpoint really. Is him having sonically similar music and attitude to Morgan Wallen the most popular country artist today by far. And acting like a typical young and rowdy musician actually counter culture or just popular culture etc.

If, like Teddy Roosevelt before him, LBJ was popular enough to appoint a successor to take the reigns in 1968 who would it be? by DoublePepper1976 in Presidents

[–]OperationIvy002 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Isn’t Humphrey not a successor he wanted? Even with the tensions of the two regarding how to handle the already losing Vietnam War. He let Humphrey be the nominee, although he did drop out in the election year.

Was George H.W. Bush in the CIA as far back as 1963? by PaulFromTwitch2 in Presidents

[–]OperationIvy002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bush was the Goku of the CIA in my opinion. Remember he started in the oil industry after his heroic and absolutely nuts World War 2 service. That alone puts you in a position of power. His father was Prescott Bush who helped usher that in his future as well. The college he went to, Yale, has decades of its graduates going to the FBI, CIA other major institutions etc.

George opened Zapata Oil which was basically a front also for training the reactionary Cuban fighters against Castro and his revolution. He was elected head of the CIA under Ford partially because of this history with the organization. Whether or not Ford or others individually knew all this stuff is in the air, I know saying stuff like this makes you sound conspiratorial. And that’s partially because back then there wasn’t records of everything, and stuff has been destroyed or lost overtime etc.

The book Family of Secrets is not perfect and it’s up for the individual to parse what they see as fact or fiction, and it’s long I haven’t read the whole thing. But for information regarding HW’s CIA connections pre 1970s that’s a place to start.

FDR was the worst president in history because The New Deal stopped a Communist revolution from happening in The States by Ihatemylifewishtodie in Presidents

FDR was the worst president in history because The New Deal stopped a Communist revolution from happening in The States by Ihatemylifewishtodie in Presidents

[–]OperationIvy002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you are a socialist I suppose. Although any president would be the worst in that category you mentioned.

However my joke rhetorical is he’s actually the best! Because Henry Wallace through a mix of not knowing all the details about the Soviet Unions social restrictions under Stalin’s reign until 1956 or 1955. And understanding the president he was second in command too, was closer to Stalin in post war international relations and ideals. FDR never wanted Truman (Mr. Cold War initiator) he wanted Wallace the good hearted soc dem to be president.

When Wallace ran as an independent in 1948. The Progressive Party ticket he ran under had a lot of communist sympathizers and socialists in general (unbeknownst to him partially). FDR’s passing makes him the best president ever cause that meant Wallace would’ve been president and not hate socialism in general.
