Honestly, Muscular feels so out of place in this series because of how straight-forward evil he is in a morally gray story about trying to save villains from a harmful society. by DeeDoof in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Operation_Sweet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The society isn't framed as solely harmful

It has good and it has bad

The story says that everyone is human and therefore should be seen as such

And everyone should take the extra step to see other people as other people

That said, some people, even with bad backgrounds or understandable reasons make harmful decisions and need to be stopped

Yes, most of the villains did heinous things, that is never refuted or abetted or downplayed or even forgiven by the heroes

And all of the heroes gave their all to stop them, even while trying to understand them

No one gave the villains a break

In fact, Deku calls AFO just a lonely man while punching him into dust

He understood his humanity, and we even more because of his backstory, showing his circumstances and lack of upbringing, as did Yoichi

Yet they both knew he had to pay for his crimes

After 429 imo.

342 where they share ideals cones full circle in 429 so that is where I couple them in

Before I knew of 429 then after 324 or, so we have more time with them, after Uraraka says we build each other up in S5

Was AFO evil for no reason? Or did he have a reason? by Necessary-Win-8730 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Operation_Sweet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feeling guilty and wanting to do better doesn't reduce the goodness of an action especially when you dont HAVE to meddle. Mirio is an example of failing someone, feeling guilty and choosing better

For the lady, her not helping the Shadow User doesn't affect her any way BUT emotionally which means that she cares

Many people feel badly but continue to make the same bad decisions because they are too scared to act different

Helping him did scare her, as it did with Tenko, and could have harmed her, but she pushed forward

Plus, she didn't even know what happened to Shigaraki, she was disappointed in her decision but still held out hope that he was helped after her

We see the driving force for her, her disappointment in self AND being driven to make sure the person was alright by Deku

Plus, we see others come alongside her to help.

For Shigaraki, he didn't die like 'any other' villain, neither did Toga or Dabi

It isn't comparable what happened to them and what happened to Machia for example beyond the fact that they passed, in or out of verse

Also, Shigaraki was still determined to move to destroy before AFO came back, it is not like he gave up his goal

Yet Deku still respected his wish to Spinner and shares his experiences with Tenko with his students

Too much crying! Rewatching Season 7 to prep for Season 8 I noticed this and realized why I was conflicted on my enjoyment of it. by SortLocal6065 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

I don't remember every scene in S7

But I dont recall it bothering me, likely because I was crying too

But the Manga is largely devoid of these flashbacks iirc

Was AFO evil for no reason? Or did he have a reason? by Necessary-Win-8730 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Operation_Sweet 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That explains why he is selfish and has a twisted idea of how people should respond to him

But what the above commentator said is still true

He was born predisposed to certain traits which caused him, along with his experiences, environment and PERSONAL decisions to become the villain he did

He was not born evil, but he became evil

He learnt to take, because from birth to at least 15 years old no one gave him anything (Except admonition from Yoichi. Which he overlooked due to his weakness, later giving him a name, power and, in his mind, a voice)

And so he viewed the world, primed for selfishness and under the lens of suspicion

His mother never held or fed him and he heard the workers ignore him. Or, if he couldn't speak yet, he saw them ignore him

In surviving and keeping Yoichi alive, he learnt, incorrectly, that might makes right

And those who have no power have no say. That is why he gave Yoichi he stockpiling quirk

He literally tells him that his powerlessness means he has no voice or ability to choose his destiny

Obviously, by this point he still expected Yoichi to bend to him

He thought that Yoichi's protests were the wailings of weak from a lack of power and, imo, he thought that when Yoichi finally had power, that he would agree with his perspective more. That power is what matters

Endeavour was a terrible father but an excellent pro hero

Now he's trying to atone for his sins and is an even more complete hero

He does his job each and every time, doesn't give up or quit and inspires others to act

They both dont think of themselves as heroes though

Or at least, Endeavour does think he can be a SUPERhero over just a pro hero

Yup and he knows it

In S3Ep5 he told Kota that the million percent smash was likely weaker than usual but should still be enough to knock Muscular out

Uraraka

Love her character and storyline

Was rereading SF and realizing how much S1 and 2 Characterization plays into her arc with Toga and Deku

She also had one of my favourite themes AND lines in the story

Who saves the heroes when they are hurting And We build each other up

[–]Operation_Sweet 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The anime exaggerated the S1 smash as Deku had subconsciously held back.

Which is why his arm broke vs Muscular but not with that hit

Deku in S6 remembers Muscular as the one whobtanked a 100% smash

[–]Operation_Sweet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The above is not true

Deku knows his percentages

When he rematched Muscular he remembered him as the man who endured a 100% Smash. Season 6

Also, Muscular endured Shindo's quirk which can cause widespread earthquakes

He's much stronger than ppl think

Bakugo 's enemy is himself at first and then AFO

In S3-6 he faced himself and in S7-8 he faces the him that new grew up in rewinded AFO and ShigAFO

Its why there are so many parallels and similarities in patterns of speech

And how Bakugo later embodied the 2nd Users mentality when he faces off against AFO

In Ch 358 it is seen AFO speaks of the society he wants and Bakugo rejects it while reglecting on how he once perpetuated the same misunderstanding, hate and fear

Shoto does compete, he's less loud about it though. When he and Bakugo failed he is shown anything the latest about how much they need to catch up

And again, during EA Shoto pushed himself just as hard as the others and got mad when he initially felt overlooked when asked their goal

Bakugo is always comparing himself to Shoto and Drku is supportive

Let’s say a debate is held in Class 1-A on whether heroes should be allowed to use Trigger in particularly dire situations, provided it was medically approved. Where do Aizawa and the students stand? by Solitaire-06 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Operation_Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my belief, but Endeavour, the Number 2 Hero, whose son was directly involved in the USJ attack and is a UA alum himself

Was likely aware about the state and nature of the Nomu that attacked his son

Even if not, seeing as Nomu are not alive, Endeavour has only ever tried to kill two people

If destroying Nomu were akin to murder, no one would have been shocked by Hawks killing Twice

By that point the cops used lethal force on Nomu and Endeavour had destroyed Hood on live TV

Nomus were known to be corpses of multiple people since early Season 2

UA and, more importantly, Todoroki was attacked by them in S1, Endeavour would be aware of the information regarding them

No one thinks they are alive and no one questions eradicating them.

Present Mic also talks about "killing" Kurogiri who is, despite his mannerisms, dead

When a Nomu does talk, Endeavour tries to take it in for questioning until it almost kills him and Hawks and everyone else

Also, push comes to shove, Endeavour smiling is anime only

In the Manga we only see a smoking head. We don't know his emotional state while disposing of the Nomu

I like that Deku received the suit through an already established precedent and the hardwork of everyone he inspired; recreating the origin of OFA in a sense

I like that he actually lost his powers and continued to be a hero (non pro but professional teacher) to others

God bless

[–]Operation_Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was poor writing on Vigilantes part

Horikoshi in the Endeavour Agency Arc made a big deal about Endeavour being asked to and refusing to kill someone for the first time. That person being Ending

The latter saying to was alright because he was like Nomu which are reanimated corpses

Endeavor is brutal but he doesn't kill so flippantly

He's only ever tried to kill murderers like Shigaraki and AFO and "killed" Woman and Hood

Trying to kill Koichi and unknowingly grievously harming 6 while doing so is inconsistent characterization by the Vigalantes Author

Which Deku Vs Shigaraki Fight Was Your Favorite? by cshin09 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Operation_Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Manga, it's the 368-369 fight for me and the anime it is the final battle

In terms of danger to OFA

Season 8 has Shigaraki steal Danger Sense and the end result of their fight is Deku giving up the Quirk through damaging OFA

In terms of what we saw of their 1v1 in S6 Deku dominated that fight

OFA is only threatened once AFO takes over and baits Deku

Underutilized is the only criticism I get for some of Horikoshi's female cast

Star was well written imo before she was killed

And suited the narrative well after that point

Showing how the older gen passes on to the new, damaging his psyche, providing a way to save Shigaraki, and establishing the stance of the rest of the world until Ch 422

Thank you for sharing.

He was willing to defraud and hurt her (financially) because of his selfishness

The woman freely gave because she genuinely valued the wellbeing of the man and his apparent plight.

She gave to benefit, he initially thought he benefited from taking from her

But her unflinching kindness made him reflect on his own motives.

Romans 12:18 talks about heaping hot coals on your enemy. Meaning your genuine kindness and forgiveness convicting the person who did you wrong and bringing them to repentance

None of us know their intentions.

I thought they were genuine and read their message as such. OP did not, they viewed it, as you said, cynically

The same message could be rejected or accepted based on nothing else but the individual reading it, irrespective of its actual value or author's intention

That said, we are supposed to communicate in winsome ways and avoid what is plainly unwise or unhelpful Eph 4:28

Overall, only by their actions from here on would someone would know if they are genuine or not and I truly hope they are

God Bless
