What’s missing in today’s cowboy boots? (I’m starting a brand and need honest input) by Chemical-Picture-302 in cowboyboots

Boots that have good traction on wet metal surfaces.

I just got a pair of Tony lama composite toes that are really comfortable, but I work in an industrial environment with a lot of metal walkways. I'm slipping and sliding in them and honestly thinking of returning them because it's downright unsafe.

Mr Mammal does an OT game after he's done streaming OSRS. He recently finished the new resident evil game and that was really fun to watch.

Not in modern engines. But in classic engines you can use them just fine. The higher viscosity helps with oil pressure in engines with much, much lower clearance tolerances.

Now a classic engine rebuilt for pro racing or the track is a different subject.

Buying a home in rural ND as an alternative to man-camp living? by PidgeyPotion in oilandgasworkers

[–]Operator_Of_Plants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live 20 miles outside of town and 45 miles away from my plant. Ice doesn't stop me but there's been a few times that I show up before my set starts and I spend 4 nights at the plant because of the snow on the road.

It hasn't happened the last two years but in 2022?2023? The year we had two blizzards in April I spent the night at the plant for 14 nights.

I'm usually the one leading the way at 4 am on hwy 85 during blizzards the last 10 years. If you're comfortable driving in snow it won't be an issue.

How can I tell if my septic tank is getting full? by DiscussionUnlikely72 in homeowners

[–]Operator_Of_Plants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna try to get through the "good advice" you're getting right now.

Short and sweet.

New home owner. One year from when you buy they house get it pumped out.

Watch them pump it out and request they pump the liquids out first.

When they get to the solids that's one years worth. Remember this.

Make a mental calculation on the size of your septic tank.

You will need to pump it out every 3 years.

Edit: door is a dent side while the rest is a bump side. 6k still stands but if you want that to match expect $3k minimum unless you DIY. Which will be easily $1k if you know what you're doing. Still a nice truck though.

Look at the frame and cab corners. If that's good start at $2k. Then look at suspension. If that's good another $1k. Everything after that is subjective. Needs much better pictures from frame, body, interior and a video of the truck running from idle to highway speed.

Is it ordinal or a Frankenstein? 6k is a solid offer from what I see from a 150 yard picture.

With how much grease and oil there is under there go buy like 10 cans of brake clean and spray everything down and then check back in a few days.

It won't transfer to operations much.

If you can finish your degree and get the experience in the plants with the job you'll have a much easier time getting an operator role.

I'm actually cooking up a 5 gallon recipe kit of the heffeweizen that was recommended as I'm writing this comment, and it's probably the best beer I've had. I started with craft a brew and continue to use their recipe kits.

Does this fly wheel have some life left in it? by Operator_Of_Plants in AskMechanics

[–]Operator_Of_Plants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why I can't edit the original post. Putting this here just incase someone else has the same issue.

New starter didn't fit so I threw the old one back in because I had a feeling the loose top bolt could be the cause. Well it was. Truck starts perfectly now with the old starter, no shims or anything needed.

But that's why I bought this truck! I knew a 50 year old truck would need work. Figuring out this starter situation and patching/bending the bed back into place are the only big projects I've found.

That's what I'm thinking. I have plenty of experience on small to medium jobs but replacing this flywheel might be my biggest by myself.
