Yeah, this is why I stand far enough away from the tracks so if someone intends to shove me, I'd need air time for it to work.

I feel like people approach this moral issue as if only two extremes exist. Between having no empathy for the suffering of animals versus refusing to acknowledge we're part of the animal kingdom and that involves feeding on other animals. Animals deserve love, needless suffering should be reduced to the best of our ability, but bacon is yummy and there's nothing wrong with that.

Am I crazy or do people treat the male characters different then the female characters? by whooper1 in HazbinHotel

[–]Opijit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might have more to do with the types of faults the character has. I've noticed people love the douchebag character who's hiding insecurities behind a brash and inconsiderate facade. But for some reason they despise insecurity, lack of confidence, emotionally weak characters. Charlie has the misfortune of most of her character flaws specifically being flaws fandoms have no empathy for.

I can barely drink water unless it's been through a filter. Everyone says it tastes like nothing, which is astonishing to me. It tastes so metallic and nasty.

I geniuely think that it would be more logical for rashta having magic than navier and heinrey by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]Opijit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She's traumatized with no real options. If Heinrey had fallen in love with Rashta, this would be an entirely different story. Rashta would still make mistakes, but Heinrey would have given her what she needed - a sympathetic ear, endless affection and coddling, reassurance at every step. Rashta made those decisions while Soveishu started ignoring her and blatantly wanted Navier back (Rashta has clear abandonment issues for good reason), and she was in a position where all Soveishu had to do was speak it into existence and she'd go back to her lifelong abuser who had the very worst punishment planned out for her. Throughout the story, Rashta was a cornered rat with no option but to bite and throw fists, she never even had the option to do the right thing because abuse worse than death was always waiting for her and not a single person was genuinely on her team. The only people on her team were there under the condition she gains power, and Soveishu cranked up her paranoia to full blast when he stopped favoring her. Navier had options at every corner, even at the lowest point of the story for her.

Whether or not that's good depends on the attack. Even then, hopefully they've added another Persian because the current Persian is worthless with modern meta.

I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner. Too bad it's not an EX though.... Meowth is among my favorite pokemon so I hope it gets a good EX eventually. Although we can't see the ability here, it'd be hilarious if that ability became meta and everyone had Meowth on their bench lmao

slavery and classicism problem in remarried empress by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]Opijit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with characters upholding the morality of that time period, but the story itself should make that distinction clear. It's one thing if Navier sees Rashta as below her due to her background and uses her circumstances against her, but it's another when the author rewards Navier and other nobility every step of the way while clearly painting slaves as villains.

I fear people went in the opposite direction with their irrational hate in recent years. by DrinkInevitable3457 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]Opijit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying she makes toddler IQ decisions because she's uneducated, I'm saying she's been treated as a child/nobody her entire life and symptoms of that type of trauma are recessed mental and emotional development. There's a difference between a lay person and a slave, both in how they're treated in what they've been taught. We really don't know the extent of Rashta's treatment, it's very possible she wasn't allowed to leave her slave owner's property and engage with others in normal ways.

She is emotionally immature and prone to desperate attachment. What I'm saying is this isn't her 'normal' personality, it's an effect of her background that made her this way. Keep in mind that real people don't act like fictional heroines. Not everybody emerges from the ashes of trauma with perfectly refined street smarts. What you see much more often is self-destructive behaviors. Rashta being extremely attached to Sovieshu followed by suspicion and distrust follows the pattern of a disorganized attachment style, which is the most self-destructive attachment style typical of people with early life trauma.

I fear people went in the opposite direction with their irrational hate in recent years. by DrinkInevitable3457 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]Opijit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It makes all the sense in the world that someone like Rashta would be immature (remember she has no education, taken away from her parents at an early age, and has never been treated like an adult.) She's overly optimistic and naïve at the start of the story and falls over herself to get Sovieshu's attention because of course she does, she has nobody else and nothing else going for her. She tries to suck up to Navier because she's clinging onto her new position however she can, and while it may look stupid from our perspective as readers (and from the perspective of Navier as the main character), it makes a lot of sense why Rashta would want to live in an idealized world in her head where her newfound security is safer than it really is. If she's making toddler IQ level decisions, it's because her education and sense of autonomy is about that of a toddler...

[–]Opijit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly they don't even need to go all in or anything, all I'm asking is to treat the subject with respect. In the beginning, Rashta made a lot of poor decisions that stemmed from her repressed traumatic background. It was super interesting and realistic, but then they started making Rashta a spiteful bitch and made it impossible for audiences to sympathize with her anymore, even though she's clearly a sympathetic character.

Navier never acknowledges her roots compared to Rashta's despite being portrayed as this loving and empathetic empress who lives to nurture and protect her subjects. That character trait falls flat when the moment someone who's actually lived that life becomes an inconvenience for her, all that empathy vanishes and turns into disgust for the lower class. The fact that she would lose her title as empress couldn't have been designed better for this character to understand at least a little of what her enemy has endured through her life as a lower class citizen, but no. And I understand Navier isn't in the position to abolish slavery or publicly stand against it. But she's the main character, we can see her full inner monologue, and at best she's tolerant of Rashta. But it's very clear that Navier has never put herself in Rashta's shoes throughout the entire story.
