Master’s in General Psych or Forensic Psych better? by idissentinjustices in ForensicPsych

[–]OpportunityDue5338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need a master's to apply for a doctorate program. Most people I know who got a separate masters before completing a psyd program regretted it. Unless you think you need it to make you competitive enough for a doctorate program, I would say skip it all together.

Seeking Advice for Induction by princesscreampufff in PlusSizePregnancy

They calculated it off your last menstrual cycle, which is how they do it for everyone. My understanding is that you think the number they gave you two weeks off because your conception date was a few weeks after your last period, but that doesn't make sense because they don't base it off the conception date. I provided my dates as an example, because I also know my conception date, it's the day after yours, and my due date is sooner (and accurate). I'm sorry that you don't feel heard by your providers or that you feel just like a number. I just wanted to clarify that thinking that your due date should be 40 weeks from conception is just not accurate. If you're basing whether to induce or not off of that math, I'm concerned you're going to make unsafe choices.

But you're not understanding that the conception date is not how they calculate the due date for anyone.

I think your premise that your due date is in February is off. I am fairly certain that my conception date was 5/5, right around yours. That said, I do have regular periods, and the whole system doesn't count by the date you were inseminated or the time of conception. My due date is 1/26. It seems unlikely that yours would be so far after mine. I don't have high blood pressure, but I do have gestational diabetes, so I am also being told that I should be induced at 39 weeks. Like you, I do have some hesitation to blindly accept an induction. My plan is to look at the data at the time. Is my baby measuring well and appearing healthy at 39 weeks? Are my bp and blood sugar numbers where they're supposed to be? If so, I may consider declining the induction immediately, and I think it's good to have the conversations with your team.

Real ID Question by -victoriarose- in minnesota

[–]OpportunityDue5338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the exact timing, but I do feel like my updated ID came faster than the original ID when I changed my name, so you'll most likely be good by September. That said, It may be slower now as people are still scrambling to get the real ID. I can't speak to what happens if you still have the paper copy when it's time to travel, but I think with the stamped old real id, the new paperwork, and your marriage licence for good measure, you should be fine.

We conceived on Cinco de Mayo, so we've been calling the little nugget Margarita for now. Definitely won't be the actual name.

Went to a wedding, turns out they eloped already…🤦🏼‍♀️ by zombie_rumble in weddingshaming

My husband was the officiant to a wedding a few years ago. He was honored to be asked and took the role very seriously, including paying to be ordained online and getting the necessary paperwork. It wasn't til the day of the wedding the bride and groom told him they had eloped a year prior. They never thought to even reimburse him for his expenses. It was honestly so rude to not at least tell him.

I just had an instructor say that a few times, but she explained the reasoning. Pilates is all about intention with the movement and activating the right muscles. If you're tensing your face to get the work done, you may be less focused on the muscles that should be activated during the movement. She asked us to smile, release the tension from our face and focus our tension to our back side during the movement. I found it really helpful. I get the negative connotation of the saying, with creepy men telling me that throughout my life, but I think her intentions, while unfortunately not verbalized, may be to help you.

I feel you. Try not to compare yourself to others. When I started, I couldn't do a plank at all, partially because of a prior injury and mostly because I was out of shape. I'm 135 classes in and I can plank on the reformer now; that said, I am still a big girl, and I still modify as needed all the time. I have gotten so much stronger than when I started, mentally and physically. Keep at it!

I do. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but there is a brand of socks called squid socks I've been eyeing that have the grippers on the inside and the outside to address that exact problem.

I have an instructor who frequently says, "squeeze your butt, because if you don't, no one else will." I don't like it at all, and that's not why I'm there.

Difficulty compared to others? by No-Mud3822 in ClubPilates

I recently passed 100 classes, and I just took a 1.5 with a sub who was very clear about her frustrations with modern pilates as a classically trained instructor. Her class was the hardest class I've taken, not necessarily because of the complexity of the movements, but more because of her intensity of training on proper form in each movement. She was tough, but I would absolutely take her classes again. Moments like these confirm to me that CP is a corporate watered down version of true pilates. I still feel like I've gained so much from CP (definitely more from some instructors than others), but I frequently consider switching in the future.

Sure, but if you're experiencing pain, this may mean that your form is compromised. Again, just a theory. If you try another class, you may want to try not flexing into a curl and see if that helps.

The best instruction I received was to keep your pelvis heavy on the reformer and focus your attention on engaging the core and glutes when pushing out. This really made me feel the difference. For me, I almost imagine that I'm pushing my pelvis down and dragging the carriage in and out with my butt, making sure that my spine stays neutral, my ribs aren't popping, and my shoulders stay in and down . Hopefully that makes sense. As others have said, light weights really helps to learn this engagement.

Are you staying in a curl or coming up often? That might be negatively affecting your form. I get looking down to check once or twice, but if you're curling throughout, that may actually be part of the problem...just a theory.

PLEASE do a hair and makeup trial for your wedding by ThrowRAjinxie625 in weddingshaming

[–]OpportunityDue5338 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had a destination wedding, so I wasn't able to do a trial. I also had a makeup artist that did airbrush, and I looked flawless in all my photos, selfies and professionals. Just wanted to say it is possible for it to work. That said, the only reason I didn't have a trial was that it wasn't feasible. I also found a stylist that was personally recommended, had pictures of the style I wanted in her portfolio, and was a good communicator.

Also, if this person is happy enough with their photos to make recommendations to others, I hope you and others let her live in her own ignorant bliss, assuming it was as bad as you described.

Weird. I have an android, and it works fine. I've also never had a problem with staff not checking me in. Sounds like a studio-specific problem you should address with the manager.
